Anyone remember the Daewwoo cartoon comercial a few tears ago when they were trying to make inroads to North America? Just had a cartoon face going, "Day-woo! Daaaay-woo. Daayyyy-wwwwwooo. Daaaayyyyy-wwwwwooooo. Day-woo!"

I bought a Hyundai once, that the previous owner had painted ( in original looking lettering ) Hi n dry on the back.
When did Jag go from "Jag-war" to "Jag-you-are"?

Bachman Turner Overdrive...
We all say "BOCK-mun" but they're a Canadian band. Randy Bachman pronounces his last name as "BACK-mun" and refers to the band the same way.
In many parts of Canada, Gloria Estefan's last name is pronounced "eh-STEF-un" instead of "ES-teh-fahn."
I love accents and colloquialisms. Think about the Impala. Do you pronounce the middle syllable like "you're a pal," or do you say it like "mall" or "wall?"
Of course, I now live in Picksburgh where we go dahntahn to get a permanny's sannich.

If the real thing don't do the trick...
Dude who was some very high level Korean politician was being eulogized on NPR a few months ago. Evidently he'd risen from floor sweeper to CEO of Hyundai before his political career, and the the Korean reporter delivering some of the commentary pronounced it 'HYOON-die".

I believe the "hyundai like sunday" TV spot was a marketing attempt to dumb down the pronunciation for the American audience. From my understanding, and from working for an Asian owned automotive employer previously, the technical and foreign annunciation in fact is not "like sunday", but they figured that would just be easier for us.

I went to Korea with Hyundai to visit a couple of plants and R&D facilities. They pronounce it H'YOONday.

I saw some Subaru ads on TV when I was in Singapore about 5 or 8 years ago and they very much said "soo-BAH-roo". Ever since then, I can't help but pronounce it that way.
Since moving to Michigan from Ontario I get called out for saying "proa-cess" rather than "praw-cess". Zed vs zee has already been mentioned, I think. There are more because I get identified as Canadian by store clerks fairly often, and I refuse to drop the "u" when spelling words!
Zed is French, thats why you say it that way. Hard to stop speaking your home language when you have been doing it for years and taught that way. Im from iowa and now live in Alabama, people dont understand me very well sometimes, lol.
