Fusion Rs sorta Just saw the 17 Fusion gets 325 HP and AWD. I never considered the Fusion a potential for being a "fast" car.

I also find it interesting they're playing this as a "Sport" model, and not going with an ST or RS badge or branding. Looks great though!

Perhaps it's smart, as it's a different buyer, and more subdued car. It's more or less what a SHO could/should be considering how freaking huge the Taurus' are.

This is more like STI powertrain details, but without the "racecar" pretense. No mention of manual trans, and I'd expect it to go auto only like most of the premium awd sporty offerings.

Perhaps they won't slap an ST/RS badge on it unless it's a true fully tuned package (sport suspension/seats/brakes/etc.) Maybe that's yet to come?

As is, this may be more of an Acura TLX competitor, Audi S3, etc.

Just saw this as well. That's a neat car.

Build that with a wagon body and manual trans, and then you'll be singing my song...

I like it. I love the looks of the Fusion and have always thought a go fast version would be a cool.

Now if only they make the next generation a sport sedan based on the Mustang platform

I'm behind the concept 110% I've always like the new body style Fusions. Would definitely be interested in a fast version of it.

I would trade my 2013 Fusion in for this. If I could afford a 35k car.

I bet this will be the next Mazdaspeed6.

Interesting, but no real defined market, for the money you can get much more sporting cars that aren't as jam packed with "features" that nobody wants, so people will line up none deep to buy it and then after it gets discontinued after two years, demand will increase and they will hold resale value for a silly long time.

Agreed. I'm sure it'd be a slow seller, but it would exist in a vacuum as a wagon and would become a cult classic like any other sport manual wagon.

325hp and manual? Sign me up!

The V70R is defunct, V60 Polestar is auto only, the A4/S4 aren't sold as wagons in the US (fake off-roader AllRoad is auto only), etc. VW teased us with a Golf R wagon, but it's likely to remain vapor ware in light of dieselgate.

I doubt it. Ford and Mazda have been separate for years now.

I hate to kick this dead horse again, but someone must want those "features", or they wouldn't sell them.

In reply to Tom_Spangler:

My point is that this car reminds me of the Mazdaspeed6 in 2003. A weird ultra-midsize that tries to be a lot of things at once. People largely didn't buy it because you couldn't get a non-luxo version, you HAD to get all the crap, so they went and bought Evolutions and WRXs (and STis) instead. The buyer who wanted a performance car did NOT want all of those features. Hell the contemportary STi didn't even come with a stereo, just a blanking plate in the dashboard.

The Focus RS, for example, is going to have an MSRP only a couple thousand more (for a car nearing $40k, not much of a difference), IS effectively a wagon, IS manual transmission, and has more power. For a larger V6 with automatic and all the toppings, the SHO's MSRP is, what, $40k?

My question is, who is this aimed for? Is there a goal and a purpose?

THAT is why I see Mazdaspeed6. Not by the specs sheet, but by where it seems to fit in with the market. Its main saving grace is that Ford seems to have no problem with making niche vehicles. In effect, they have F-U money from churning out a billion F-series and Tauruses so they can make low production versions of existing cars. Mazda didn't really have that, so they had to kill the super 6.

Oh, don't tease me like that... I even love the color. The family truckster of my dreams.

As a STRONG lover of wagons, I approve this message. I had a Saab 9-5 Wagon with the 2.3t and a 5spd manual, Stage 1 tune. Total awesome dad sleepermobile!!

I like it, but I think it's going to cost a lot. For it to be really competitive and to undercut the competition, I think the MSRP should be right around $30k, but I think its going to end up in the high $30k range.

And that wagon... yowza!!!!
