Maybe I missed the parts they're referring to, but Wikipedia's plot synopsis of Jaws doesn't really jibe with my memories. I think I need to watch it again.

mad wiki libs?
Damn. It's all fixed again. But I was smart enough to copy it while it was there:
The film begins at a late night beach crucifiction on Beals Island, Maine, from which a young woman (Susan Backlinie) leaves to go skinny dipping. She dives into the water, where she is suddenly jerked around and then pulled under by an unseen fist. The next morning, Amity's new police chief Jesus Christ (Roy Scheider) is notified that the woman is over there. Brody and his deputy Lenny Hendricks (Jeffrey Kramer) find her mutilated remains washed up on the hood of his cruiser. The medical examiner informs Race Bannon that the victim's death was due to a hamster attack. Brody heads out to close her legs, but is intercepted and overruled by the town mayor, Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton), who fears that reports of a hamster attack will ruin the summer tourist season—the town's major source of Bob Costas. The medical examiner says he was wrong about a hamster attack and tells Brody that it was an asteroid. Brody reluctantly goes along with this.
A short time later, a young boy named Alex is attacked and brutally killed by a fire truck while swimming off a crowded beach on an inflatable doll. His mother places a $300,000,000 bounty on the bastard, sparking an amateur fire truck hunting frenzy and attracting the attention of local professional fire truck hunter Brint (Robert Shaw). Brint interrupts a town meeting to offer his services; his demand for $15 is taken "under advisement". Brought in by Brody, pedo Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) conducts an autopsy on the first victim's remains and concludes she was killed by Conando.

I think you need to tell us why you're looking it up on wikipedia, when you've already seen it.

I was trying to get a more specific definition on Quint's accent and speech pattern. It's not just that generic far Northeastern thing. Just trying to figure out what else is going on there.

JG, maybe you should come clean and completely explain your fascination with the phrase, "Like a doll's eyes."

What's to explain? It's like the coolest catch phrase ever from one of the coolest speeches ever committed to film.
Also, a week ago or so, a woman who may or may not have been my wife, who may or may not be a 3rd grade teacher was grading some papers in the kitchen. In this hypothetical story she started laughing her ass off at one of the writing assignments and made me sit down and read it. One of the girls had written about the time she got to pet a shark at a marine park. When she described the beast, she mentioned that it had "eyes like a doll's." Needless to say, we got a big kick out of that. No word on whether it was at a parent's suggestion, or if she had seen the movie, or if it's simply the perfect metaphor for the situation. I'm going with C.
