AIDS is so last year. All the cool people have cancer.

Good move on the no-reply deal. Silence speaks volumes. If the ex doesn't get that and sends another letter, a very short reply might be in order.
Dear Ex,
Just wanted to let you know I have been very happily married for the past four years. I hope you meet someone soon that gives you the love and attention you deserve. Hope you and the kids are well and happy. Much luck for the future.
Sincerely,
You
Short, sweet, to the point. There's nothing she can read new meaning into, plus you take the high road. No use wishing ill will on the dead.
As far as your wife goes, all you did was receive a letter. It doesn't matter whether you thought it was from the ex or wondered why she sent it. You're entitled to open it and read it. Reading a letter is neither a crime nor grounds for divorce.
The real reason the ex wrote you is she has no takers. Nobody she's met since you has made the grade. I guess she realizes now there is not a long line of men willing to take her on plus a houseload of somebody else's kids. So all the problems that caused you to break up are all still in place. She's just more desperate.
If your wife insists on continuing the debate, you might want to point out you know the above. Then give her a big hug and a kiss while thanking her for delivering you from that situation.
My wife and I are completely open about our past relationships. People from both our pasts have contacted us trying to take our temperature if you get my drift. At that point, we just scoop each other up and thank God we don't have to deal with people who found us wanting in one way or the other. We have much more important crap to fight about.
Good luck.
