What are the advantages to the various game systems regarding driving games and particularly simulators? I have a Wii and my 6 year old is asking every day for a DS. What about the XBox? I want to get a system that will have some realistic driving simulators.

It's really GT5 vs. Forza 4.

Flip a coin. There's things i like better about GT5, and really only one thing that i'm jealous of in Forza 4. That being custom car graphics.

I was the world's biggest GT fan, but now I own Forza4. Neither is really a "simulator" though, for that you want a killer PC and a subscription to iRacing.

I was a huge GT fan, but agree with this. I own GT5 and got bored with it really fast. Forza is equally realistic (more in some ways, less in others), but most importantly, FUN (and that's what you want, right?).

And yes, if you want a real sim, get a PC, wheel, game chair, etc etc

^What they said. If I were in your shoes, I would skip the Xbox 360 and PS3 unless you are interested in other games besides racing sims.

ps3 does blue-ray... also from what I understand does a better job as a media extender (although if you're running win7 the 360 is pretty good at that)

360 costs if you want to use it for netflix/hulu (live membership)... but I've got friends and family that have the system... and I like shooters along with forza... I did the 360 :)

for the wii... if you haven't check into doing homebrew on it... i've got a bunch of old game boy, NES, SNES, sega genisis, atari etc games on it... amazing how much kids can get into the old games... especially fun when its a game you played as a kid... also modded it so it stores all the Wii games on an external USB HDD (makes it so the kids never touch the disc) and so easy my 6 y/o can use it.

Bought PS3 + GT5.

Played Forza 3.

Sold PS3, bought 360.

So there's that. BUT, I've owned my 360 since early August and it's worked properly MAYBE three weeks of that time.

PS3 plays Bluray. XBox doesn't.

PS3 online gaming is free. XBox ain't.

There's been like 3 films actually filmed in high enough HD to look different on BluRay versus regular DVD, so that's useless.

Online gaming is pretty lame unless you're racing on Forza4 with Team GRM as all you'll do is get cussed at by a 25 year old pot-smoking slacker from his Mom's basement and his 13 year old kid brother as they cheat their way through "pwning" you.

PS3- Prettier GFX, Blu Ray, free online gaming.

Xbox- Subscription online gaming, no blu ray, only capable of 720p wide open.

PS3- YLOD- cured with the slim, system crippling regular updates (seriously I had the damn thing down for nearly two days with stupid PSN updates) spotty network support, damn thing stole my credit card.

Xbox-RLOD- cured with the slim. Updates ONCE A YEAR. Online interaction is super slick. If you want serious competition, it's going to be on XBL (Excluding PC- real men play shooters on PC). Controller is more comfortable IMO and can be made to work on a PC with an adapter.

PS3 has PS Move- support is mediocre at best... but it's motion gaming. Sort of.

Xbox has Kinect. I haven't flailed as hard as I have at that stupid little bar. Some pretty cool homebrew hacks as well.

PS3 is more effective as a media device. The interface for the media playback is much more detailed and better for the media person. Still probably the best value blu ray player on the market.

Xbox is more family friendly. Not nearly as deep of a media device, but your 5 year old will learn Xbox and its colored buttons faster.

That being said, I own......both. Actually all 3. Well... if we start talking portables too.... yeah. Were I to choose one or the other, based solely on blu ray, the ps3 would win. Gaming, for gaming- would go to Xbox.

I've RLOD'd my Xbox, and my ps3 likes to pull that network ish. So they're about even.

1)Factually false. 2) Subjectively false. I've had great multiplayer with some clearly intelligent people on multiple platforms. Currently, I'm playing Battlefield 3 on 360 with some guys who's knowledge of maps, weapon attributes, and vehicle spawn times meet or exceed the real-life knowledge of intel weeenies I've run into at work. They're smart berkeleyers with high-speed day jobs.

This.

I will say that my PC gaming online experiences have been far more fun than console, especially if you just jump into a game. If you have a group of friends that console game a lot and you frequently play together, its a blast no matter what platform you use. Back in the day, the Forza 2 <200hp races I had with a group of friends were awesome.

The Bluray and free online gaming won out the PS3 for me. That and I wanted to play more games that were exclusive to Playstation than what were exclusive to Xbox. As great as Forza is, it wasn't enough to sway the decision.

i have a PS3 and GT5, even built an e30 seat steering wheel setup, and though i like the game i find the much better focused races of Forza to be more fun after enough time, plus Forza makes much better use of a cheap wheel than GT5 does of a nice wheel (g27).

so i want a 360 and forza, but i wouldnt give up my ps3 for just a 360.

I was a GT fanboy until Forza 1 was released. That was enough to get me to jump on the xbox and xbox live bandwagon and I havent really looked back since.

I do have all the GT series games except GT5, I dont have a PS3 yet. I would LOVE to try out the game, but i literally do not know any friends that have GT5, much less with a wheel.

I played quite a bit of GT4 with the Driving Force Pro that I had for a few months....I was not overwhelmingly impressed. If I may modify WilberM3's statement.....

I wrote: Forza 2, 3, and 4 make much better use of a cheap wheel than GT4 does of a "nice" wheel (DFP).

I have had my fair share of hardware failures over the years. I just got my 4th xbox (if i include the ones replaced by microsoft under warranty), a new 250gig slim. I am on my 2nd "wireless" microsoft wheel which to be fair is holding up a lot better than the first. Quite frankly, I am too vested into this platform to just rid myself of all the games and peripherals, and to start from scratch.

We are going to get a PS3 eventually, mostly for Blu-Ray if it ever really catches on, and I will definately be getting GT5 and a wheel of some sort.

Haven't played GT since I think 2, but Forza has rivals mode which is what keeps me coming back. The Kinect adds a fun element in regular play as well.

I had one problem with my 360, six years ago. If you like having your system hacked every three months or so, go with the "Free" online system.

I played iRacing one time at Sebring. Took a Formula Mazda around Sebring, and couldn't believe how terrible it was. Had to reset the game after I went off the course at 40 mph at turn 3... IN A FORMULA CAR. The front brakes locked up, and the car just pushed right off the track into the tire wall, with hardly any pedal pressure at all. I'm not impressed with iRacing at all, especially since you have to pay quite a bit for it. I'd rather spend that money on my real race car to run around Sebring with.
