Now that I am actually parking a daily driver in my garage there are some issues that I had forgotten about.

The remote only works about 5 feet in front of the garage door. I tried extending the antenna with some wire and that got me about an additional foot of range. I can live with this but it isn't ideal.

The remote kills batteries in about a week. I figured maybe the first time was a fluke so I put in another duracell battery last monday. This morning it opened the door fine but when I got home it was dead, no lights on the remote when I press the button.

Would a new remote possibly fix this? I assume it's worth a shot at $20-30 for a new remote but I can't find much searching online for the issue and would rather put that money toward a new opener if it isn't going to fix it.

Forgot to mention, it is a Genie Intellicode.

I've got a similar problem with the Liftmaster 8500 installed on one of three bays.  The other two bays have much older units that work great.  This one, not so much.

The older units work at a different frequency (orange button to sync?) than the Liftmaster 8500 (purple button?).  I've been told that the newer unit is kind of an interim technology that just doesn't work that well.  Apocryphal or not, I've also heard that they aren't all that compatible with any RF noise that might come from LED lamps in the vicinity.

I've been thinking about putting an 850LM Universal receiver in the circuit to drop a hammer on the problem, but have been holding off just for higher priority projects.

Update: New remote from Amazon with same day shipping and it works great. Opens the door from down the driveway and a little way down the road (100' or so). Hopefully the battery lasts in this one.

My present opener is from Ace Hardware . Brand name, Chamberlain Power Drive.

It works from half a block away.

Don't recall replacing the battery. due to age I must have. It uses a 3V2032 Lithium battery

dose where the remote is mounted make a difference ?

Do you have to program it ?
