Can I get a remote control, and program it, for a Wayne Dalton (1/2hp) garage door opener that never had one to begin with? Uh, I should say do this with spending too much $$$? I got the opener and all mounting pieces for $25 and its maybe 3-4 years old.

I've bought universal units before that worked well. Kind of similar to a tv remote where you go through some process to put in the code for the opener you have and then link it up to the opener as though it was a factory unit. Funny thing is, I think you'll pay the same or close to it for a universal remote as you did for the unit!

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

I actually have been thinking of other ways (think repurpose) to use the opener and long track for. Maybe a horizontal dumbwaiter or something???

If the opener never had a remote, then you are going to need a receiver as well. Check Amazon, there are quite a few a a available.

Wayne Dalton seems to be pricy. I just ordered a remote for my in-laws, and it was $25-$30. No idea if a universal setup would work with one, but if you're buying receiver & all, you might be ok.
