16' x 7' wood door from the late 70's. Sagging, the steel stiffener struts are kinked/bent broken, it's not worth fixing. In the future, maybe a year or 2 I'll extensively renovate the garage - removing the pre-fab truss roof and framing a a shed roof w/ glue-lams to add a mezzanine and sky room for a lift. Insulation, drywall, new windows, skylights. Probably a swanky aluminum/glass door or doors.
But this one is not long for this world. As in interim measure, are the $625 Clopay doors at Home Despot terrible? anything affordable that's better?
I got a 2" thick steel door from a local guy for $700, installed it myself. Very nice door and not super hard to install if you take your time and RTFM.

Have a Clopay door on my garage. Embossed steel with Styrofoam insulation and aluminum sheet on the inside. Cost me $516 to buy and have installed by local garage door service company. In 1986 . And it is still in good shape!

The size of your door will determine its cost. Standard sizes are actually pretty cheap when you consider the complexity of garage doors. Shop around and dont be afraid of Bubba.
Clopay makes a good door. The insulated doors that have the steel wrapped all the way around are really nice and seem a lot sturdier, but I probably wouldn't spend the money if youre gonna replace it in a year or two.
