Sorry, this post is not about FoMoCo products, but the new movie.
I never heard of this Marvel franchise until my son saw them in the Ultimate Spiderman cartoons about a year ago.
My son, who is 7, wants me to take him to see the movie. Its rated pg13, so I'm worried that it will be to violent for him, but the thing is, I've noticed that pg13 movies are all over the place, from some that seem like they should be PG, to stuff that should be R.
If anyone in the GRM forum community sees this movie this weekend, could you please report back. For a point of reference, we decided that the recent Transformers movie was much to violent for him, the recent Spiderman movie was about his level.
Thanks. HappyAndy.
Guardians at least from the comic books is more star wars then blood bowl. Its marvel so if he has been fine with say Iron Man or the Avengers then he should do OK.
Just talked with my co-worker he watched this last night. Apparently "E36 M3" is the worst word used and it's more star wars than marvel action hero. So.... likely GTG

I never heard of this franchise, either. Must be new…ish.
But do expect guns and 'splosions.

Andy, we have the same views and goals for our kids. When I'm wanting to see if a movie is good for the kiddo's, I go to kids-in-mind. Here's what they have to say about this movie.

I like that they are no-nonsense and just tell me what the deal is. Then I can make up my own mind.

You're welcome buddy! Some of the stuff is funny, but I appreciate the way they lay it out factually. I knew you'd appreciate it.
I'm giving my nephew the ok to see it. He is 9. If your son can handle avengers this will be good.

Just left the theatre with my girlfriend. .. awesome movie. I would say is safe for that age group as there was multiple children there. Was a really good movie though I would recommend it
the only problem I had with it (other than not knowing any of the backstory to appreciate some of the jokes... was the theatre I saw it in had the sound cranked -way- too loud.
I also hate 3d glasses.. they give me headaches. I might go see it again in regular old 2d

I saw it.
It's a tremendously over priced B movie. Director John Gunn comes straight out of B movies and adult films. He understands how to do campy stuff well.
But he knows nothing about being concise. The movie had some really funny lines. It was an attempt to mimic (ripoff?) Star Wars, but it kind of over the top. It had about 10 endings. Never seemed to know when to stop.
If Transformers style violence was too much, you may want to avoid.
I enjoyed it, but don't need the sequel. They failed to tie it well to the Marvel universe. It is a quirky outlier they are trying to convince us is worth seeing.
Make sure you take your son to Planes Fire and Rescue first.

If you watch after the credits of the Marvel movies, you'd see how this ties in. They explain a LOT about the universe in this movie and how this movie ties in. There's MUCH more to all the Marvel movies than what's actually going on in all of them, and they're all tieing together to a pretty big conclusion. It's not a superhero movie like the other movies, but then again, these characters aren't superheroes. I liked it. Even though it was allsci-fi, it has a much more 'human' feel than the other Marvel movies, IMO. Character development isn't all that great(especially with a couple characters), but a few are very engaging.

Wait, what? Do you not know who Howard the Duck is?
I liked it. Probably the most of all of the Marvel movies so far. Its not a complete piece of E36 M3 like most of them, and it didn't waste an eternity on some origin story that I don't care about (I'm looking at you Captain America). Fun, good action, good special effects, decent story.
I don't really care how it ties in, or if it does. The Marvel universe is pretty scattered due to being legally split between Fox, Disney, and Sony anyway.
I can't say that I've always been a Guardians fan. I've read a few of them, mostly just to make sure that i was getting the whole story on story lines that I WAS following. What I saw intrigued me, though.
I HAVE been a HUGE James Gunn fan for a long time, though. His background is straight up B-movies, having been a staff writer for Troma, later moving on to write and direct his own material—all of it with the same pulpy, gory, tongue-in-cheek roots as his earlier work. His "adult films" were all work safe, and full of the same dark sense of humor as his other work (http://jamesgunn.com/pg-porn/). Along with Dr. Horrible, it was some of the best content to some out of the writer's strike era.
"Guardians" on film is one of the best times I've had in a theater in along time. It doesn't burden itself with pandering to any demographic other than people who love to enjoy the movies they're watching.
As for kids, I'd say it's no more extreme than any of the Marvel movies to date. Maybe even less so, as the violence is far more fantasy based than some of the more real-world fights of Iron Man or Captain America. There's a few S-bombs, but nothing the kids won't hear at a local Taco Bell.
I think the movie slots nicely into the current (non-Sony) Marvel film universe. The Guardians and the Avengers both share a common enemy in Thanos, who's after the Infinity Stones (and, ultimately, probably the Infinity Gauntlet), because the bad guy that rules half the universe always want to rule to whole universe. I would not be surprised to see the culmination of Marvel's "phase 3" films to be an Avengers/Guardians teamup.
This has not been a great movie summer. For me, Guardians has been a definite bright spot so far.

In reply to JG Pasterjak:
That's a very good review, which I agree with.
My earlier post was not really focused on the movie, but rather on the OP's perspective on his 7 y.o., and his opinion that Transformers was "much too violent for him".
If that's his viewpoint, Guardians will be a tough sell, and the "B movie excellence" that Gunn exhibits will be over his head anyway.
But yeah, I liked it.
I went this afternoon at the behest of my 11yr old. We had a good time. I liked it quite a bit more than I thought I would. It was well done, funny and entertaining. More than once I said to myself "That was pretty cool". What more can you ask for $14?
Oh... and Howard the Duck came from the Collector's Library. Who'd a thunk it?

"Duck!"
"And proud of it!"
I really want to see it. Angry space raccoons FTW.
Bradley Cooper has never looked better .
We enjoyed it. My favourite line included a Jackson Pollack reference.
