How many times have I seen this movie? Why am I watching this movie? Why am I enjoying this movie? Why does Donna Reed look so good?

I never really liked Its a Wonderful Life. I can watch White Christmas over and over though. I was supposed to go see it in a theater Monday night but that fell through.
it's a tale of a man that is so bad at his job that he loses everyone's money, so he decides to kill himself instead of facing the consequences, only to be talked out of it by an angel, then he gets bailed out by the very people who's money he lost in the first place..
it's "GM: the Motion picture"
it's also a movie that no one gave a crap about until tv stations realized that it was too old to have to pay royalties when they air it, so they made it into a "tradition"..

bah humbug
towards the end when he comes home from work on Christmas eve all stressed and upset from losing the bank deposit he starts yelling at his family........why do we have all these kids? why do we live in this musty house? Must she keep practicing that song?...........my wife says that me on a daily basis.
It is my absolute favorite movie of all time. Just like in life, there's a guy that's trying to do the right thing, then some dope screws him over by doing something stupid, and some shiny happy person takes advantage and never has to face the music.
It's become our Christmas eve tradition. Never cared for it, but now I kind of look forward to seeing it. Probably because there's never anything else on after we do the Euro thing (Wife's family) Christmas eve.

Actually, it entered the public domain by accident.
Republic Pictures, the original copyright owner and producer of Wonderful Life, neglected to renew the copyright in 1974. It was one of the biggest media legal faux paus in history.
Republic regained control of it in 1993 through a weird Supreme Court ruling. The film is not copyrighted, but the story behind it is. Republic has granted long term exclusive rights to NBC.
So, from 1974- 1993, everyone showed it, and Republic didn't make a nickel. Now, only NBC shows it, but they do so with vigor.
Copyright should expire in 2041.

My favorite holiday movie is..
For funny stuff, Elf, the Grinch (both the original and the Carrey version) and Christmas Story are good fun. My wife and I will quote Carrey back and forth all the time; yes we're weird. "She'll be scarred for life if we're lucky!"
Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, Elf, the OG animated Grinch & Home Alone are on heavy rotation in our house from Nov 1 to Jan 1. We bought our 3rd DVD of Christmas Vacation last week because SWMBO has worn out (scratched/skips) yet another one. We're on our 2nd copy of Elf too.
I don't like It's a Wonderful Life, and SWMBO has never seen it, so I'm not making recommendations for it to be added into our Holiday mix. Though I would like some more variety, I've been campaigning for Fred Clause and Bad Santa to be added. We usually do Nightmare Before Christmas around Halloween already, but I hadn't even considered Die Hard, that's a great suggestion!
