I will admit the place I live is not in the best shape. My landlord, as he has gotten older, has turned into a slumlord. This leaves me to do all the maintance, but it needs new windows and a roof soon, and that is beyond me and my budget.

It is also in a small pocket of homes in a more rural area. As such, there are really no regulations as to what you can and cannot do to your house and property.

As such... my neighbors on either side are driving me nuts. On one side the new couple has what is either a Symoiad (forgive the spelling) of an Alaskan Huskey.. it is barky, hates men (it wants to eat my face whenever it sees me) and they do not clean up after it. Their idea of taking care of it is letting it run in the yard and letting it in when they are done. They also hate the dark, it is like living next to a stadium for all the outdoor lights they have on at night.

On my other side is the proverbial white trash family. The house is small, but the mother has filled the hard with all sorts of tacky nicknacks.. and at least count, they have TWO RV trailers parked on the property. These people have a cute little pug, that sits outside and barks.. they also sit on their front porch till about 3am and talk, laugh, and drink.

They moved in last year. A new thing is the daughter's B/F who comes and picks her up at all hours of the night and day.. he never gets out of the car, just pulls up and hits the horn.

Since that time.. I have not really gotten a good nights sleep

Nothing you guys can do about it.. I just felt a real need to vent. I try to be the good neighbor, I do not play loud music, my cars are running and quiet, and I keep my yard nice and neat.. I guess it is time to get out

At least your neighbors haven't threatened to get their gun or run you off the road or slowly follow you in their car while walking your dog or have your dog attacked by the "friendly" dog not on leash. I could go on. Thankfully her in the sticks my neighbors aren't very close to us. We own, so we ain't movin. Alcohol, drugs, and stupidity will favor us over the long haul.

Sounds like its time for a plus/minus sheet, followed by either earplugs and a facemask, or a move.

You have to love that 2nd amendment.

My neighbors are corn, and sometimes beans. I like the country.

As for the boyfriend honking, I would rig up a airhorn to a remote and stash it in a tree right at your property line and (if possible) aimed right at where ever he likes to stop in the driveway. Wait for him to get close, but beat him to the honk just one time and I bet he stops. Video tape it just to make sure.

Bail. You don't need that E36 M3.

The air horn deal ECM suggested is GENIUS!!

In out new neighborhood, we have more problems of peeps walking their dogs and letting them do the business in others yards I caught a guy yesterday and we had a nice talk about it . . .

I have problems with ours too. The wife and I are looking to move sometime in the next few months. Too high rent, landlords that don't care, and a falling apart 6 y.o. Condo doesn't help either.

Our neighbors turned on us for no reason and we turned into the hated people on the street. Why? I have no berkeleying clue. My dogs stay tethered, when they bark, I drag them back inside, we keep to our selves, and we've made several attempts to be social with them. I honestly think its so they have someone to gossip about.

So when are we going to discuss the merits of a HOA?

HOA's give the neighbors from hell actual authority.

I think the clear answer here is to just be a bigger redneck than your neighbors.

LRAD

Capable of focusing sound so precisely, that you can literally scramble someones thoughts from the noise, so they are incapable of really thinking while the sound hits them, but 2 feet away, no sound can be heard...Capable of penetrating walls .Get your hands on one, and use it discretely. It will be hard for them to prove to the cops that youre keeping them up all night with unbelievable sound levels if NO ONE else in the hood hears a peep

Thank you so much for that link. I live in a wonderful neighborhood with great people and no real problems except for a pair of dogs that spend hours in their yard barking at everything that moves. This will put and end to that. Thanks again!

Oh, and for the guy that honks his horn.....

Hide in a darkened window and when he honks, just shoot his car someplace with an air rifle on a low setting. The impact noise will get his attention and he'll stop very soon. I did this with the neighbors kid that would roll up at all hours of the night with his booming car stereo on. Now he turns it down before he gets anywhere near the house. Only took a two or three dozen plinks before he got the hint.

I live far enough in the woods that neighbours ate not a problem....or there if I need them.

As far as the boyfriend's lack of respect for you and your daughter go, my girls understand that if a boy drives up and sounds his horn with the expectation that they run out to join him, he will be leaving without her.

Yea, neighbors alone aren't enough to move unless it's truly awful. Your roof caving in PLUS your neighbors...I say get out now.

Can you imagine what mguar's neighbor would be able to do if there were an HOA???

HOA's are bully pulpits for busybodies--period.

At least OP is renting and can move without worrying about having to sell a house.

What a miserable thread...

Do you have a sprinkler system? Because I think it is possible to rig it to a motion detector but aim it toward the sidewalk about 5' up so it soaks the walker.

I dunno. I'd bet she'd find a way to put a zillion leins/fines against you and create a complete E36 M3storm. HOA's seem to be terrible a protecting from mayhem.

I'm just stunned that your local police don't stand up to her (lawyer or not).

It's almost worth lawyering up just to sue her for harassment or something.

I feel very sad for you. Terrible situation.
