So, say i wanted a rustoleum like paint to spray on a project. Must be stupid cheap. (Challenge car)
Can a legitimate paint store like Sherwin Williams or something match an existing piece? Its emerald green mica for a miata, and i like the color. But the paint is too hosed even for a race car.

You're never going to find color-matched metallic paints at a home store, I would think.
Im going to say good luck. Your best bet is going to a good paint shop with the car and see what they can do to mix you some matched paint.

Didn't you tell me the Valspar Zero rust could be color matched at Lowe's?
A solid color maybe but there are too many variations of metallic/pearl additives to expect a match in anything other than automotive paint.
Im ok without the metallic. I just like the shade of green.
Im pretty sure that loees can get it close, stampie. The metallic was in question.

Take a piece in and let them color scan it. As long as you don't care about metallic, they can get pretty darn close to the background shade. But it won't look the same, obviously.
I wonder how different the color will actually look without the metallic in it? I haven't really noticed the metallic yet.
I painted my BMW 2002 Little Mermaid Underwater Wonders from Home Depot because I wanted Laguna Seca blue and that was just about it. Solids will work just fine for 95% but metallic wont.
You may find without the metallic, the shade of green looks completely different and is hard to get what you want.
