There is a cat in my neighborhood that keeps coming into my front yard and using my flower beds as a latrine. It's killing some of the flowers and generally pissing me off. My idea was to bury some mouse traps under a thin layer of soil and let it step on one, but Mrs. Dustoff is mush more compassionate than that and wants to me figure out a humane way to keep it away. What can the GRM braintrust offer in regards to my conundrum?
Moustraps are a great idea!! A dog may be easier and better though...
It's futile. There was a song about it I learned at camp years ago...
Other frequent answers to questions here (which may or may not work for this problem):

Jeep Cherokee
Shotgun
Don't get any on your Hootus
I help when I can...the rest of the time, I'm just a smartass.

That's the best damn use of photochopping I have ever seen ever.

I'm sure there is some product you can spray on it that smells like wolf pee or some other cat predator, which will dissuade them from visiting.
Leaving tape sticky side up will be very unpleasant for the cat, and hilarious.
There was a video on here a long time ago of a guy who used a motion sensor rigged to a hose, and videotaped the results with hilarious results.
Get some cat repellent or tiger/lion dung from the local Zoo.
Unless you have tigers or lions in your area .

Large animal trap, some food.
The worst that could happen is you catch a skunk.
The best is that the cat goes someplace for adoption.
I have a neighborhood cat that likes to sleep on my BMW. The little SOB leaves his sandy little cat footprints all over my nice clean car.
I figured violence wasn't really called for, so I've taken to spreading red pepper flakes on the car at night. (the kind you put on pizza) I did this a few times-----no more cat prints.

It might have a home, you know. Some of us actually have indoor/outdoor cats.
My most socially acceptable suggestion would be a large cat-eating dog.

Oh so my option of not injuring, murdering, or maiming the cat is the least favorable one?
Trap cat.
Put sign next to trap that says "Is this your cat?"
In reply to PHeller:
I'm not saying it's a bad idea, all I'm saying is that one shouldn't assume that just because it's outside, it's a stray.
It better not be my cat!
Citrus rinds and/or coffee grounds.
Not that I feel that you should spend money, but CatStop
(no affiliation or endorsement implied - just thought it was a cool solution)

a trap would piss PETA off........can't be trappin stuffz ya know. Damn hippies
Some good suggestions here. I don't really want to take the cat away from its owners -- although the sign ("is this yours?") on the trap is a pretty good idea. I love the motion sensor sprinkler idea too, that might have to be my weekend project. My neighbors might give me some looks for urinating in my own flower beds at night and my dog doesn't go in the front yard much. I think for now the red pepper idea is probably going to get the nod. I'll report on my findings.
In reply to DustoffDave:
How about an electric fencer hooked up to chicken wire laid on the surface of your beds in the spring, before stuff comes up. It might give the little beggar something to think about...

If its damaging my property, its a stray.

This would ground out the fence, at best making it useless.
