I have a bunch of old Mac games from the box Mac to PowerPC era stashed away (and some old PC games, too).  As far as I have been able to tell, there isn't a huge demand for them on the collectors market like there is for some of the old console games.

I'm trying to stop being such a hoarder, but one of my problems is I like to try to get things to someone who would appreciate them before I just toss them in the trash.  Does anyone know if there is any place I could sell these that would be worth the hassle versus just throwing them out and recycling the packaging?

ebay them?  Or if you have a used book/game/movie/etc. store in town?  Even if you let them go super cheap, at least you know the person buying it has a real interest in it.

FWIW, I gave away a crap ton of old PC games about 12ish years ago.  Totally wish I had kept them.

I'd post on one of the reddit gaming subreddits.  Post a pic of what you have. Ask who wants em, they pay shipping.

Any reason why you regret getting rid of them?

GME might charge me to take them away.  These are old.  Like Test Drive 2: The Duel is the oldest, and Civ3 is probably one of the newest games I'd be looking to get rid of.
I'm not sure I want to go to the effort of even shipping them for cost of shipping, at that point it is easier to just toss them.

Edit:  For eBay, I just don't think they are worth the effort to list, package, and ship for the small amount they are likely to go for.  I've thought about just putting up a few ads and selling them in lots on FB marketplace and CL, but my experiences there have just contributed to me being more of a misanthrope.

2nd Edit:  I also no longer own any hardware that could play this stuff, the oldest machine in the house runs Win7, and I seem to recall WinXP and 7 had major compatibility differences.  Not to mention the Win7 machine is now an offline-only device for obvious reasons.

eBay as a bundle then instead. Sell it as a lot and list all the games. No reserve. Find the USPS pre-paid box that will swallow all of it first of course and put that as the shipping cost

I may try that with the newer CD-based games, where the packaging might not be part of what anyone wants.  For the really vintage games, I'm guessing the packaging is important, and that'll take up a lot more space than most of the post office's boxes.

Nostalgia mostly.  I'm big into the id holy trinity and I had all of them on CD (and a few on 3.5") up through mid 2000s.  Would love to have the whole collection.

Digging though some more stuff, and found some non-gaming things.  Including some old Macintosh system software and its packaging and manuals, and even the manual for Microsoft Multiplan, the predecessor of Excel.  I suspect there are one or two people out there who would want this stuff, but am not sure I want to go to the effort of finding them.  smiley  And an old ADB keyboard.  If I can find an ADB-USB adapter laying around somewhere, it's tempting to see if it'll work on a Windows machine.

I guess I will have to give eBay my bank account info (haven't sold on there in years).  Looks like most of what I have isn't worth much, but one game may be worth several hundred dollars.

Finally dove into eBay tonight.  Selling the one expensive game separate, and bundling a bunch of the others together.   Will see how it goes.  At least their selling interface has improved somewhat in the last several years.

Auctions all ended last night.  I counted my time spent (photographing, inspecting, writing up listings, going to the post office, etc), and figured out my income vs expense.  For the five lots that I sold, I averaged about 2.5 hours each.  Might be a bit more, as I just got paid for the 5th item, shortly after getting back from the post office.  Going to have to make another quick run out.  Net is about 275, so $22 an hour.  Take out the one big game (Marathon Trilogy in case anyone is interested, a classic pre-Halo Bungie game), and the hourly take is down to a smidge over $11 an hour.

To make it worthwhile, I need to get the prep time down.  Now that I've done one round, I think I can be more efficient at it if I give it another go.  Might also wait until I have more items to sell, to get a bit better efficiencies of scale.

One other thing I learned, is that the last minute sniping rush on eBay is nowhere near as strong as it used to be.  With the exception of Marathon, nothing really jumped up by more than 20% or so of its earlier bids in the last few minutes.  Might need to just start listing stuff at a fixed price, although I'd rather not, as I'd like to minimize post office trips, and I figure my feedback could get dinged if I wait several days to ship anything.

Yeah, sadly, maybe it's time to lock the thread.  That's the second canoe in a week, I think.

You'll need to log in to post.
