This is kind of in bad taste but the show/work must go on. I have a number of cars and parts that were paid for before the hurricane up in Brenham Texas (77833). This is I think only 70 miles away from Huston.
I need to get trucks there to do pickups. How much of a cluster truck am I getting my shippers into by sending them that way with car carriers. Are they even going to get there if I send them down for say the north.
It looks like they only got 20 or so inches of rain over about a week of time and my guys onsite are saying that the roads are no longer flooded but this just seems weird. They are in a rush as they don't get paid till pickup and delivery and honestly they need the cash and want to get back to work.
Brenham is pretty far away from Houston. I THINK they will be OK, especially if they come down from the north. There were reports of gas shortages as far away as Dallas, but a friend drove through a couple days ago and said he had no problems, although prices were high.
They have almost a 250$ gas surcharge on this shipment for that reason. Did not want to hamper the recovery by sending trucks in. Normal route is to go to Houston and then up and over that area but that is NOT going to work. Or they can fly me into Houston with some drivers and we can just do a double shift back.
81$ to fly into Houston right now but that seems like not such a good idea.
Thanks Hess
Coming down from College Station would be a better choice, I think. Not sure what a flight into CS would run. Being a smaller, regional airport, a lot more, I would guess, but they used to have connectors to Dallas and both Houston airports. The smaller roads down into Brenham used to be pretty good, last times I ran them. Texas has a good road system. So, like, coming down from Sommerville, or across from Navasota.
I would think that getting from Houston to Brenham would be challenging. I bet there's not a car to be rented in the whole area.
Drove through brenham last night, they were not significantly affected by Harvey.
Re: rental cars, my buddy had to borrow my spare car for a day when his truck was in the shop because the insurance cos have snapped up all the rentals. Might be different at the airport but I don't know.
Well my truck dispatcher called and they can get into the area in 5-6 days for pickup which means everything should be clear. Pickup in the next 48 hours was dicey and they were charging another 600$ in fees to get the trucks in a and out.
711$ a car to get them back to San Diego open transport in a single shot. That is bitchen pricing.

Flooded Vipers?
I'm sure there are a lot of empty trucks coming out of Houston. They are trying to get cars into there as fast as possible so I'm not surprised the good pricing.
Shoot, The local track in College Station that has been on or off on if they will stay open cancelled all of the races for the rest of the year because they were going to make more money housing damaged insurance cars than staying open as a race track.

Possibly if I can get the deal done. Good start for a Kart.
Definitely more Prowler and a bunch of Flathead parts and a 30 Ford body for resale.
I know where I'm at, on the backside of base they have a staging area that is taking supplies and vehicles from San Antonio to Houston. They roll deep with big trucks so Im assuming access isn't a problem. Gas though...
I'll be driving from San Antonio to southern California with an empty trailer sometime in October. If you need anything around then holler. Its only a 20ft trailer so, one car.
