My friend's son is the quintesential hippie, but 45 years too late. He's anti-government, anti-society, anti-everything. You can't arrest me because I don't recognize your authority kind of attitude.
Anywho....
After five years to attain a four year degree he joined the Marine Corp. If you're going to bow to the Man, go Air force or Navy, but the Marines? Anyway, this Saturday is a party for him as he has volunteered for duty in Afghanistan.
What does one give a young man on the way to the front?
Hug, a hand shake and words of wisdom?
Hooker?
Bible?
I'd appreciate your guidance.
Thanx, Dan
iPod touch, SAT phone, great socks and underwear, shoe inserts, international calling cards
Kevlar body armor.
Subscription to his favorite magazine?
Language CDs?
wOOD...
Can't beat a good log!
PSP and batteries, more batteries, and then a couple more packs of batteries - it gets very boring over there when youre not on duty, and batteries are hard to come by (wifes cousins were recently there, this is first hand info).
decent sunglasses
+1 on undies and socks and calling cards
a decent pocketknife
If you're looking for a good pocket knife/multi-tool. I just bought one of these & it rocks - especially at this price!

Multi tools are great but he should get one from the corps. I'd want a laptop, or something that I could watch movies on. I accumulated over 300 dvds the year I was in Iraq.

im not sure about if they will have power everywhere there deployed so anything like an ipod you might look into a solar charger for it and anything with batteries get him a 100 spares. and since hes a marine, probably a couple 24 packs of beer cause the marines teach ya how to drink. and maybe some precious metals from mcmaster to beefin up the flak jackets and what have ya.
or ya could just send him too the bunny ranch
Awesome set of headphones for $80 I have them, I can vouch for them.
