This is the answer. Just don't walk alone through isolated and/or poorly lit areas. You've already said like you feel it's a pretty safe area.

I was a little concerned with that. Does look very short, considering how much kick it would generate. I've got big hands. Maybe two fingers on that grip.

That gun has a comfy grip, and you can get it much cheaper if you don't have your heart set on an ostentatious color

The Judge is an answer to a question nobody asked, as nobody asked it for good reason. .410 isn't a very effective round, and you can get better performance than 45 Long Colt in a smaller frame. .454 Casull, while more powerful, makes the already large Judge even longer.

The Judge has one real use, and even then it's not very good at it: you could load the first few chambers with birdshot, and the rest with 45 LC to use as a snake gun while hunting. Of course, you can buy snake shot for .357s too, a far better idea.

If (OP) you are worried about your girlfriend walking at night, the answer to your problem is change her out for a butt ugly girlfriend.

No knives, guns, spray, horns, etc. Ugly will do it.

Since we have gotten together my fiance has gotten much more gun friendly and understanding that she needs to be able to protect herself when I am not around. She carries a knife with her everywhere she goes and she has also gotten herself a Ruger LCP. Small, light weight and thin it is easily hidden on her even when she is wearing summer clothes. She is one of the most natural shooters I have seen and we work on her shooting every week.

She also has a new dog, an Anatolian Shepherd. He is a guardian breed dog that when fully grown should be a good 150 lbs. He likes to go on walks with her.

It is a good little gun. If you need a little more grip to it there is a Hogue slip on grip for it and a larger magazine extension finger shelf that even when installed it keeps to the small size. I can drop the thing in my pocket and you would never know it was there.

I carry now a meat tenderizer I found at a fancy chef supply place lol it weighs like 5 lbs! it has a nice handle that you can grip to and has a nice round heavy metal flat plate on the end with a nice amount of metal sharp spikes to pound the E36 M3 out of your face and shove your berkeleying teeth down your throat

Funny how some things sound so much nicer than they are.

Nothing against responsible CCW owners. I own a gun. I love shooting. But unlike in the movies, crime happens fast. You know, pass a couple guys on the sidewalk and BLAM you've been knocked unconscious with a pipe. Ride your bike past a couple guys and BLAM all of a sudden you're on the ground being kicked.

I don't mean to get all psycho, but get real folks. Ugly as it is, put yourself in the place of a serial rapist: how are you going to do it? You never want her to even have the opportunity to scream or even clearly see your face. You don't step out and wave a knife around and demand that accompanies you to your secret hiding spot. You stand behind a tree in the dark, wait for a woman who weighs 80lbs less than you to pass, jump out, grab her throat, pull her straight back into the bushes, put your knee on her back, grab her hair, slam her face into the ground until she stops struggling. That's what happens. If you're the woman in that situation, even if you've got a gun IN YOUR HAND at the start of this, you're in a bad spot. You never had a chance to face an attacker head on. If the gun wasn't knocked of your hand already, you're hardly in a position to shoot without having the thing turned on you. You're probably positioned so you're shooting into his side or back over your shoulder.

So yeah, I think I'd rather my loved ones just avoid the situation in the first place by calling an escort, getting a cab, walking with a friend or having me pick her up. The gun is not prevention; it's the absolute last resort that may or may not even be usable when you need it.

You do make some excellent points. However another issue is most people have absolutely no clue as to what is happening around them. With Tiff I have been working on her ability to pay attention to the small details that let you know when something is going on. She is getting to the point to where she notices the things that I do about the people and environment around us.

Heck it is actually helping her become a better tracker out in the woods when we hunt and allowing for her to stalk game better than when we first started.
