Just saying that sounds awesome!
A GNX is not the same as a Buick Grand National. IRRC, The GNX used a different blower / intercooler and other engine magic produced by ASC / McLaren (same folks that made the Turbo V6 Indianapolis 500 motors) The standard Grand National engine was not as advanced.
Cool swap though.....I've seen a DeLorean swapped with Grand National power! Very cool!
The GNX was extremely rare. Most were squirreled away into private collections as most thought it would be the last "true" musclecar. ( ie-- mid-size, RWD, high power)
I saw two GNX's when I worked for the Buick place. (Fun fact: the FBI allegedly had, IIRC, 25 of them, that were debadged and had cheapie wheels. That came straight from my Buick rep around 1994.) Grand Nationals were fairly common around Chucktown. The rarest turbo around there was the T type, I saw exactly one and it was rough as a cob.
Yeah, I only saw one original GNX in the wild back in 1988 or so. (Chicagoland area)
I've seen them at shows since, but never on the street. They were an "instant" collectible, and many never got to be exercised at all.
Grand Nationals, and even Turbo T-Types were pretty common around Chicagoland in the late 80s-- early 90's. Keep in mind, they didn't get fast until 1986 when the intercooler was added. Back then you'd learn to keep a close eye out for that 3rd tail-light (mandated in 1986) If a GN didn't have one, it would be a dog......if it had the 3rd light though...... high 13 sec 1/4 mile times which was VERY fast for it's day.

Came here to say this.
GNX is to Grand National as 22B is to Subaru WRX. You're not going to just find them lying around anywhere.
There were also significant changes to the suspension and interior. The GNX had gauges that were worth a damn!
Note: I see more Grand Nationals than you can shake a stick at, I have never ever once seen a GNX in person.
Interesting conversion though I would rather see the GN motor in one of my Cuttys .
Anyway I have seen exactly ONE real live GNX in my life time. I have seen quite a few GN's and in fact there was one at our little podunk car show a week ago. It was pouring rain and the guy still came out of shelter to talk to me about his car and popped his hood to show me his mods.
A good GN can still be had for $10k just have your cash ready because they normally go fairly quick. T types can normally be had for less.
that RX7 doesn't even have a GN engine in it- looks to be a normal run of the mill fwd 3.8 with a turbo of some sort put on it..
holy E36 M3, thats prolly 30 miles from me
and now I'll forget that I saw it cuz I don't need to drag any more E36 M3 home
my s10 has a fuel pump from a GN... does that count?... friend has one seriously built up... took it on the power tour 2 years back... saddly he won't take it to the track after an accident from another driver who had been drinking... :-/...
