If suggesting DBZ is fair game I'm gonna suggest Bleach instead. Similar theme, but it's a lot more "grown up" with less shonen sillyness and an art style that isn't so ridiculous that it wears on you. 366 episodes to go through. Skip the Bount filler seasons and any filler eps where they're playing soccer or baking cakes (worst ep of them all) or anything like that. Most of the later filler seasons are worthwhile.

Lucifer's Hammer is awesome apocalyptic porn. If you like that stuff you'll love that book.

If you want to read some funny stuff I'd check out "The Sex Lives Of Cannibals" By Troust. He also wrote "Getting Stoned With Savages". They're hilarious travel-logues. They should do well for some escapist reading.

If you're into heady, and still funny, stuff I'd recommend Bill Bryson's "A Brief History Of Everything". A real nerd's book but it's funny and will teach you quite a lot. Did I mention it's humorous?

If you you want more bleak apocalypse fiction you should check out Cormac McCarthy's The Road and just about anything by Paolo Bacigalupi. The Windup Girl and Shipbreakers are two I've enjoyed quite a bit.

If you ever want to read sci-fi written by someone other than a white male I would suggest more apocalypse porn by Octavia Butler. She wrote the Parable Of The Sower and a second book who's name escapes me. The way she describes how the U.S. slides into and exists as a third world country is painfully realistic.

Also, if you want to kill some hours, check out both Initial D and Maximum Tune- Wangan Midnight. We all know what initial D is, Maximum Tune is basically the same thing but instead of drifting, it's based off the real highway races that take place on Wangan.

I actually downloaded that LSD game to play on an emulator. Looks like it should at least have plenty of novelty value.

Any Feng Shui gardening book is fun.

Reading The Imperial Cruise, A Secret of Empire and War, by James Bradley (Flags Of Our Fathers). Just started so don't know how good it is.

There's always the goal of watching every episode of Top Gear on Netflix in chronological order.

While on the pain meds, I recommend the Tick on netflix - live action not the cartoon.

Bummer! Lots of good suggestions for reading... and along with "..History of Nearly Everything," strongly recommend ANY Bill Bryson, especially if you're going to be, uh, medicated. Combines the best of travel and humor in a recipe that's probably even tastier when medicated.

Oh, and Stieg Larsson's entire "Millennium" trilogy is available on Netflix, in the original Swedish with subtitles. I watched all three this weekend, and damned if I'm not starting to understand the language... or at least want to substitute random words like "yumping" every now and then when I speak.

My wife has had a few surgeries in as many years. I know it's total hell, especially the first few days afterwards, when all those sleepy drugs are still kicking around.

As for books, George R. R. Martin's Songs of Ice and Fire series. Yes, they are getting a ton of press, but they're actually good. And crazy addictive. And (only slightly) better than the show. And the current five books comprise 3,000+ pages, you can easily fill up 6 weeks that way!

I have already downloaded Lucifer's Hammer to Chuck's Kindle and have read about 10% of it (Kindle doesn't give page numbers, just percentages). I am really enjoying it.

I haven't been able to find Beautiful Katamari (Xbox version) locally, so I may have to order that on Amazon.
