The way everyone pulled away from him on the long straight I would guess that he too may be a bit to "Robust" a figure for an F1 car.

That's a level of situational awareness bordering on the telepathic. And he made 9/10ths of those passes on the brakes. I guess it helps when you can throw your giant balls onto the track to help slow you down after you blow past everybody else's braking point.

My guess was the fact that everybody else except him was drafting another car in one way or another. dunno

I wonder how many races they get out of those cars before replacement. That was probably the least violent of any of the videos of them racing that i have seen.

His knee just doesn't rest against the shifter, it pushes it out of the way!

Man, Bathurst is such a terrifying track. Only the Aussies would have the balls to even make it exist. Awesome.

Seems like he really knew the track. He took a few wide lines to carry speed that let him just move right up to the front near the last portion of the racing. Very confident I would say. Only takes one guy to turn in at the wrong time and ...

  1. There are no runoffs because it is a Mountain with sheer drops on the other side of the concrete barrier.

  2. You think it is scary in a Lotus, try a 4 door RWD sedan with 700hp.

  3. Here is 3 time Aussie Champion and my friend Simon Evans, yes another Evans, he is testing for Peugeot for 2010 if he can get the budget

This may be old news here, but this first lap at Watkins Glen in Greg Amys NX200 ITA car is one of my faves. He missed qualifying, I think.

I love that footage. he kicks ass. And he clearly has the fastest car, he positions himself well in the corners and then just pulls everyone when the road straitens out.

What I find extraordinary about the Dean Evans clip at the start of the thread is that he might be in the slowest car (or his big self makes him slow in equal cars). He makes all his passes with great positioning decisions in corners, when braking (or should I say not braking when others are). He positions his car with a precise and violent certainty and is simply making decisions faster than anyone else, and then absolutely owns the space he puts himself in. Once he gets free he blasts away, and then, right at the end of the footage he backs off. The racing is over, preserve the car.

I would like to know more about this big guy.

Amazing bit of driving. The Targa Tas clip was great to watch, too.

Here's one of my favourite Bathurst videos. Glen Seton in a HR31 Skyline in the wet, 1987. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pqszux7F1JA&feature=PlayList&p=57E5C8F64B3005FB&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=27

That, my friends...is course knowledge. Wow. I gotta go see Bathurst in person one day. Is it true that it's a road through a public park, and that you can drive it (but not like the Ring)?

It is a public road, open for general driving all year round except for a couple of weeks a year

Thanks, man! I was hoping you'd weigh in again on this one...IMO, Bathurst is one of the most under-rated places in the world.

Did a little googling on your friend Mr. Evans..looks pretty quick, and sounds like someone to watch!
