I think that's the plan. Part of me wants to do overhead LED lighting in each cabinet and glass doors. That might be over the top though.

We have the pegboard set up, spent the money on nicer pegs and board and whatnot. It's nice because it's easy to make something that looks very uniform, clean, and organized with it. And with good pegs and a few studs we don't have much trouble with bumping it and stuff falling out.
That said, the next time I set up my own garage it will get the plywood and nails treatment, it doesn't look as nice, but it's cheaper, more versatile, and less fiddly.
I never understood the appeal of slatwall or pegboard for tool storage. Its all out in the open to be knocked around, get dusty and dirty, and if you get more tools then the perfect setup you had needs total redoing to add in the new tools.
Buy a good toolbox and spend some time organizing that and you're set.
I think slatwall is more secure, but pegboard is a bit more flexible. A friend of mine who ran a MAC Tools truck had a good solution. He used pegboard. Instead of hooks, he wove a elastic cord through the holes to secure the tools. It kept everything in place in the moving truck.
I'm also a big fan of the magnetic tool holding strips/bars.
I like pegboard because I can see all my tools. My aviation style toolbox is fine, but I can't for the life of me remember which drawer is which half the time.
