The wife and I have been discussing possibly getting chickens when we get a house. Mainly for eggs.

Anyone have the experience?

Yup.

We like to keep at least half dozen hens, and usually do meat birds once a year as well. Ask away.

Yeah, we had 10-12 but just got rid of them a couple of months ago. They had got to be 2 years old and most chickens' egg production drops off sharply around 18 mos. We went from a peak of 10 a day (1/hen) to 2-3 a day - tough to justify their expense and maintenance at that rate so we gave them away on C-list.

Make sure you have a good coop. A co-workers chickens all got themselves eaten by a fox or some other predator.

IIRC, they have a whole section devoted to overcoming township ordinances and such. If not, lemme know and I'll get you the linkey.

You'll need to log in to post.
