I have a hand-me-down TomTom that has old maps. It's been the best thing to happen to random driving, ever.
I couldn't tell you about the Garmin, but you can do stuff like that with new TomToms. I'd expect you can do the same with a Garmin device.
I have a kinda cheapie Garmin and love it. That one actually seems kind of like mine. The big thing is having a unit that announces the streets. I'd much rather it say "turn left on Elm" than "turn left ahead."
I also recently discovered that I can plot a route on Mapquest and then send it to the Garmin. I thought that was kind of cool.

How can I do that? I have a hand-me-down Garmin that I could send routes to.
I got a basic Nuvi today and I'm trying to figure it out. So far my TomTom was much more user friendly.
But the mounting system on the nuvi is nicer.
Edit, can I change the keyboard from ABC to QWERT?

After you plot a route on Mapquest, click the "send to" button. From there, it seemed to work fine. (My parents' house is off the grid, so this helps us get there.)
Well obviously pitch in a few hard earned $$ myself. I would love to be able to save trip data (altitude changes, max speed, route, etc)
