Ok, so I bought a DJI Phantom 1 from Joey48442 Saturday. I'm trying to figure out the least expensive way to get FPV and video recording. I'd need the FPV camera to have a range of about 1 mile.
The Phantom has an gimbal already.
I've looked on bangood, but got lost in a sea of information I don't understand.
Everyone I know runs the fatshark setups. I couldn't tell you what version though.
Remember even with FPV you still need to stay within LOS legally. Nothing that there's an enforcement mechanism, just saying.
If you are recording for any sort of quality, the cheap fpv options go out the window pretty quickly. Most of the cheapies are way below HD quality. They are just for you to see basically where you are flying and the video quality is on part with flip phone cameras.
Fatshark are the go to goggles for fpv racing, but if you are looking for typical video/photography use, any action camera that can link to your phone will give you an fpv setup. You are unlikely to get that sort of range though from the built in transmitter on a camera. They are intended to function over wifi.
The easiest basic setup on a phantom one is an HD camera that is recording all the time (GoPro/Yi action cam etc..) and a separate fpv setup so you know you are pointing the good camera in the right direction.
For example : here is an approx $200 setup that uses a CMOS sensor and the display quality is 320x240.
I just bought a spark and it's been great, I'm not familiar with the features of the phantom 1, but i thought they had the fpv and recording built in? Other than that, maybe an older GoPro? You might have a hard time getting to 1 mile on the P1 wifi/2.4 radio though. I know the spark uses a modified wifi on 2.4/5.8ghz and it will do only 1.2 miles under ideal conditions.
If you need parts for the old P1 you can try readymaderc or drone holic, both stock DJI parts.
This is relevant to my interests.
