The shop revised the estimate up to 2500$, I told the shop guy that they probably didn't want to work on it anyways and he just laughed.
I don't even think i'd try to beat the dent out as I've seen too much bad body work. Just leave it there as a crater in the moons surface documenting the impact of an human powered asteroid.
I don't fault the cop for not wanting to get involved, it is a busy city and I'm sure other problems take priority. Berkeley is a hot bed of panhandlers and the homeless, I think the people get on either AC transit or bart and infiltrate the city. Berkeley is hands down nicer than Frisco, Frisco has nice areas but is very unsavory.
I'll get some pics of the damage so you folks can see what I'm talking about.
