my mom's boyfriend called me yesterday to talk about some things I'll be fixing on my mom's pathfinder, and we eneded up talking about cars. the conversation got to where he asked me what I liked, then, when I told him just about everything, he told me he has a mid 60's corvair vert and a 60's honda dream (don't know engine, any other info on it) that I can have if I'm interested. They've been parked in his barn for a long time.
!!

any tips on what to look for on the vair, and how to tell exact year/engine/everything for both the dream and the vair?
the dream is the one I really need help id'ing.
I'll be taking a lot of pictures when I go over there, and will update here.

They are yours for free. Bring them home and then figure things out and inspect them.

Unless they are totally rotted out pieces of junk, they are definately worth the free price.

Most of the Dreams you'll see are 305, but I believe they made a 175 also.

My buddy collects 305 Superhawks and Scramblers but knows about Dreams. If you have any questions I can hook you up with him.

Even if they are rotted, they're worth some $$ in scrap after you pull the salvageable stuff and sell it. Sounds like a great find.

Darn right. Grab them before he changes his mind.

For the Corvair:

Copy the info on the Body Tag. It is found in the engine compartment (that would be the back) on the rear frame rail on the right side.

Also useful to get the Engine ID (lot of engines get swapped). It is found on the block (kind of buried) just in front of the bottom of the oil filler (usually covered in grime):

going to be working on them there for now because I am in an apt with no option for a garage right now. And I'm definitely gonna be fixing them up, unless they are completely unsalvageable. and I mean completely.

there's probably a ton of people out there who would trade hardtop plus cash for a convertible in similar condition.

pix of both vehicles please!

If the 'Vair is a convertible, then sell it and get a coupe. The verts are the ones worth some coin. Trying to weld a roof onto a vert Corvair comes under the heading "If you have to ask how, you can't do it". And, it would be dumb.

I have seen hard tops for early Corvairs converts (62-64, squarer body) but have never heard of one for late models. Which is a bit ironic since the early converts are know for being very solid, while the lates are known for being a bit wobbly (even put vibration damping cans in them)

David is right. If you want a hard top, sell this one and buy one (or trade). You should be able to trade up pretty well. Rust of course is your enemy here.

lol. a bit crass.
and I think hes wanting to help me out with it, which is why it'll be staying at his barn till it's dd-able.
so I think I'll put some work into it, then eventually sell it and buy a turbo hardtop=]
and I'm thinking we might go over there sunday if I get done with the volkswagen in time. If we do then there will be pics for sure.
