Considering purchasing acreage for retirement and/or subsistence farming (worst case scenario). Thinking 20+ acres, mostly wooded with 1-2 acres cleared. Most interested in SC, Western to central NC, & SW VA.

Any suggestions on websites to peruse for listings?

Craigslist seems to have some posted by owners other wise most real estate web sites have a search engines with an option for vacant land. I am searching for some land myself, just in Wis.

I met a guy from Florida who bought a big chunk of land in Maine on eBay. It's not the way I would do it, but it's an option.

You can get 20 acres of land all over SC for a fairly reasonble cost. Lower part of the state is cheaper than the upper part. The closer you get to the big cities the more expensive it gets. The mountains is stupid expensive.

I suspect NC is similar but more costly.

Don't know much about SW VA, but whenever I come out of the tunnel from WV into VA, its like the sun starts shining, the birds are chirping and life is good. Beautiful views from the Interstate.
