FWIW: I just checked to see what I had available on hand to run as a non-4cyl. saloon and the answer is not much. I've been buying up a load of them as they became avail. used but most of them are 4cyl. I also checked to see what's avail. in the new car dealerships and again, not too much.
I only have 4 that fit in that category. I ran them stock for 2 laps @ TM and the best of the 4 was the Audi RS6. The Jag S type R was second by only.6 sec. followed by the Audi A3, 3.2, then the Nissan Stagea. I also just bought the Mitsu. Legnum VR-4.
Avail. new are the RS6 Avant, Lexus RSF, BMW M5, MB C63, and the Skyline Sed. 350GP Type SP.
That's it as far as I can tell. Out of what's avail. to me I'm sure I could put together a fast car that should also be fun to drive. I have no idea of how they were stack up if they were built to the max. and put on some decent tires.
If you leave out the EVOs and STIs but don't take into consideration the cylinders, I also have a MB 190, Mazdaspeed Atenza, Legacy, Lexus IS200 and I'm sure a few others. FWD not even considered.
I may not be up on the definition of "saloon," but don't 2 door saloons exist? I would consider the Aston Martins to be Saloons as well.
But i may be off-base. I just thought the general thought process was big, heavy, powerful GT-type cars.
But i can see how that may be a bit difficult to enforce. (But my Ferrari Enzo is big and heavy compared to my Mini Cooper!!!)
I just had a hilarious idea, though....
How about a series where we each pick a similar car... Then dump them all in a hat and we have to "draw straws" to find out what we get stuck with?

Big cars, no limits, any tires?
I think we should be able to tell the difference between a GT car and a Hypercar.
Saloons, by definition, are 4 door cars, but do include wagons.
I found an IS200, "who hoo"
I also found a blue bird, but it's a 4 cyl and weighs about as much as the wheels on the IS200.
We could do the "draw straws for cars" thing, but some a-hole (likely me) would pick some ridiculous car just to see someone get stuck with it.
One thing you guys might try (and it might be a goofy Championship race) with the Saloons is doing a no holds bared smash em' up race. It can be quite entertaining. I did one online at Daytona, with rubberbanding to high and no damage, pretty fun actually. I ran a RAM pickup that would obliterate other cars, but it wasn't fast enough. Seeing the pile ups and the cars jumping into the sky can be quite humorous.
I think if we limit to 4-doors only, we won't have many choices. But i could be wrong... i haven't looked at the total car list in awhile.
^Gotcha.
Well, we'll see how many Saloons are in the game, but maybe it would be a good idea to make it 4-seats+ and FR?

I'll either run the S type R or the XFR.
I have a lot of wagons and Saloons.

If you make it FR only that will know out 6 of the 10 cars that are available to me leaving me with 4.
I'll try to look you up tonight Celica. I'll prep. my Jag. and see what it will do.
Lessons from last night's practice with Grizz and Graefin on Sarthe:
1) The RS6 launches horrifyingly hard
2) The Aristo handles like crap, but somehow lays down decent lap times anyways, despite being underpowered
3) The Jag S-type R handles surprisingly well, and isn't slow in a straight line, either.
4) I can hit a 3:22 at Sarthe with a screwup or two in the RS6, and 3:27 with the S-Type R with one MAJOR screwup and time spent in the sand.
5) Screw the E55 AMG
6) Graefin's IS-F sounds incredible
Interestingly, no Bimmers showed up last night.

Indeed. Couldn't get it to handle, with the supercharger(and 850 hp) it's uncontrollable, without (low 700s) it's just sluggish enough that it can't catch up with the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag or the ISF.

There aren't that many 4 door bimmers in the game are there? My 330I is under 400 hp and therefore useless, and I've never driven any of my M5s.
I was bored, so I took some pictures
I was running testing by myself last night, but I was doing it on a Mt. Aso course I made, kept getting stuff like this:
So I went online.
- The ISF is quite fast, and appears to be more controllable than anything I ran last night.
- My 300C handles fantastically well slammed, but really struggles in the sand, and with top speed (most other cars run that night were 215+, the 300 couldn't do any more than 210 without a draft) Shame I have to have the bike rack on the back, but it still looks awesome: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/DuctTapedGerbil/SpecialStageRoute72.jpg
- This might not be an all MB and BMW race like we thought, seems like it might be all Jag S types.
4.Screw the E55 AMG.
It's a shame we didn't run a race on Trial Mountain, because then I would have pictures of the Audi Tandem Drift Team
So here's an idea of what it was :
Brad, do we get to use 4WD or not?
Celica, the IS-F is all motor, no forced air. It built so slow I was afraid it would be too low on power but I think it's the torque thats off a bit. To make up for it they gave it an 8 speed trans. Too much understeer, and you better do all your braking in a straight line or around you go. Since you showed up with an RS6 last night I built mine this moring. I liked it better than the ISF even though it was .5 slower @ TM. I only ran about 3 laps though. Seems that you have to wait longer than you want to for all 3 of my cars to "settle" before getting back on the gas.
Tried to mow my grass but it started raining so I'm going to test for a little while if anyone wants to join me.
Celica, did you save the replay of the race where you flew over me? That was hilarious I guess that's why those guys wanted to race there. You should have stayed for Trial Mt. That's the wildest "racing" I ever saw. I won the second one out of 16 cars and the host was pissed so we ran it over and I didn't even qual. which put me @ the back. The host won and I got 6th. I prob. could have had 4th but a dude kept running me into walls. I finally returned the favor and he never caught me again. Wild but fun
If you did save that replay see if you can post the picture. It sounded like you clipped the top of my car as you went over. One think about that kind of race, it makes you dig deep to find a way to move forward.

HAHAHAHAHAHA there are a few in our group that I think would do that including yours truly probably lol

I did in fact save that replay.
I'll send someone a picture of it so it can be hosted later, i don't have a USB drive.
I may have clipped you, i know it was real close!!!
I have a few big-pigs that I've shared. MB C63, Audi RS6, Holden Commodore, Jag, etc. They've all got the full rack of mods, all at default settings. All are stock weight, except the Holden. I didn't want to do weight reduction until it's been determined whether or not there will be a minimum weight restriction. Save your coin and try these, before you buy your own. I'll add more as I find them.

I did 2 laps in the Lotus carlton last night. It was completely stock, dark black oil with oil light on, but I added some RS tires. Seemed fairly underwhelming, but easy to drive. I imagine with more power/less weight it might be more entertaining to drive.
I tried to do a few Z06 laps this morning, but GT5 or my PS3 was acting up. GT5 got stuck on the opening screen and wouldn't show me the little icons on the menu at the bottom of the screen. No buttons did anything at all. Quit the game and restarted. Same deal. It took about 5 minutes until I got to even make a selection. Then it took another 5 minutes to get the the main screen. All in all I spent 35 minutes and did 2 laps before I had to go to work. Not sure what it was, but I hope it goes away before Wednesday. Otherwise I'll need to start turning my system on Tuesday to be ready in time. I did watch some of the Rolex race on my Tivo at Laguna Seca while I was waiting so it wasn't all bad.
In reply to T.J.: Mine too! After clicking on game on the opening screen, I got a black screen and after waiting for quite a while, quit the game and restarted with no problem. Mine also keeps telling me that the time and date is wrong when it isn't????
When you say the oil light was on are you saying you bought a used car with the oil light on or have had it for a while without changing oil? I never saw that before so just wondering.

Yeah, I bought the Carlton months and months ago. Never drove it. Seems like a lot of the used cars used to come with black dirty oil. The used car dealer used to be a shady character until they wanted to woo us with half priced zero mileage online cars.
I get the "wrong time and date" notice all the time also... perhaps I should check my time and date.
I have run into the super slow problem, but that was when online in a very crowded room.

Go into time & date settings on the dashboard and update via the internet. That generally fixes the issue with GT5 constantly telling you it's wrong.
On the slow part, it's completely random when it happens to me. I've been in full rooms with no issue and had to wait 5 or 6 minutes just to access my garage in rooms with 2 or 3 guys.
Oh TJ, when you buy a car, immediately change the oil. That way you don't forget.
I'm still looking for the Carlton... it gets entertaining with more power.
Because it makes LOTS AND LOTS of it.

Griz, the majority of the cars I buy I never drive. I'd guess that 90% of the cars in my garage I've never driven. don't bother with modding or changing the oil unless I'm actually going to drive the car. If the game didn't have that dumb screen where it shows me the car's headlights that takes up too much time and cannot be skipped, maybe I'd switch to the car and change the oil, but as it is by the time I sit through another view of a pair of headlights I usually want to go on to something else. If there was a way to select 20 or 30 cars from my garage and do oil changes on all of them then I'd be all over it.
Don't assume that either of the next classes are going to be maxxed out.
I haven't made it that far in my testing yet.
