Just remember 10 laps is going to be pushing it for a set of race softs and 700+hp.
Frankly though, I find the track is a bit annoying. If you don't have that thing memorized, you are DEAD! It almost seems like the computer set it up so that most of the apexes are just over a hill so there is no way to see them until you are on top of them!! There are at least two totally blind corners into sharp turns a few more partially blind ones and one that you can see, but once you get into it you find out it is off camber!
If you are not completely certain of this course, take it easy!! There will be plenty of opportunity for cars to inspect the guard rails on this one.
In reply to aircooled:
Ah, you noticed that huh?
In reply to Graefin10:
Which part? The tires or the blind corners?
Re: blind apexes
I spent a LOT of time taming them. I wish course builder let you shift the course on the terrain, but it doesn't allow that. If you want something moved, it regenerates a new segment.
The point of running it was really to see if custom tracks will be viable for our series (same thing with PP). I'll be interested to see the results.
I actually like the corner-blindness and camber-offedness. I suck at it, but that's a really fun track.

Moar ROC goodness:
My 1023hp SL600, I dropped turbos to see how low it would get(nowhere near close enough), and lo and behold! I gained torque!
With a midrange turbo it sits at 1002hp/1055ftlbs, low rpm it drops to 900somethinghp/1111ftlbs of torque.
SL65, same story, I have 1000hp with a midrange, and either 1000ftlbs or damn near it. Low rpm also puts the torque numbers up to ungodly high levels.
Those two cars could destroy the earth.

I'm off the pace at Moonshiner's Run. I really only just drove it at all yesterday. I tried out 2 cars, then just decided to settle. Going to run my Scuderia 430. Mostly because I find it easy to drive and I like the sounds it makes. Thought about the McLaren F1 as well. Also thought about running the Mini Marcos from SBC just to be a smart ass and see how long I could stay on the lead lap.
I did a few laps there in the 787B and that got me my only lap times under 2:30. I think my best in the 430 so far was a 2:38.
In reply to Graefin10:
that is my favorite feature on the track, even though it catches me every now and then. You have to get the exit just right. Too little and you are slow down the straight, too fast and boom... Guardrail.
The real trick of this track will not be how fast you can go around the track, but how fast you can go and save your tires. With the HP's involved tires will not last long. At full tilt I think my tires will last about 5 laps max, being noticeably worn after 2.

SRT4 is a no.
Ginetta G4 is fast, but uncontrollable, same with the Yellerbird. No, unless I can magically get either one to calm the berkeley down.
Audi RS6 & R8, no.
SLS, no.
Lavender GTR Vspec, maybe if I could get it to stop drifting the corners, but I don't want to bother.
R34, handles well, but I can't keep it on pace. No.
Viper GTS, handles well, surprisingly docile, decent on tires. Must be the huge ass tires on it. Unless I find something better/fix one of my other choices/Buy race tires for my SRT10, probably.

I'm liking the track..it does require ones full attention however.
I haven't even driven it yet, to be honest, nor have i picked my ROC car. Might have an hour or two to mess around with it tonite.
I'm with aircooled and realmini, yeah this track has some confusing parts. That is also the same reasons i'm not running softs.
I WANTED to run my F40 but it has never handled THAT bad ever before, good lord, I couldn't even stay on the damn track and I was kickin it sideways in almost every turn....did it again offline and the F40 is great! must be online handling thing. As for the Ginetta, I LOVE that on this course, and it's proper fast too, Grizz, can't quite handle drifting every corner?
Not quite sure what i'm running yet, but i'm gonna practice good tonight
Air, isn't there an aircooled Porsche available? After all, "just say no to radiators"
I'm pretty sure there's a couple aircooled VWs he could use.
I believe I tried. I don't think if I can get a RUF up to 600 pp. I still have not found the CTR2, that one might do it. The Yellowbird might get close, but that car is hard enough to control stock!
I was going to do a silver RUF Boxter just to mess with Brad, but it won't go anywhere near the power that is needed (it doesn't allow a lot of upgrades).
Either way a rear engined car on that course would probably be insanity. Those little "apex hills" would be a terror. Getting the rear end light while turning in those cars is bad news.
In reply to aircooled:
I know what you mean by "hard to control stock". In GT3 I used to try to win the GT500 championship with the CRT2, I think it was. The 4WD car with the basket hoop rear wing. IIRC I finally did it. That car could be made to handle quite well in GT3. I also used to enter the GT500 champ. with a maxed out Sylvia. I finally got to where I could do it but you had to block like crazy.
I was mostly kidding with my suggestion but I was also wondering if you could drive the suckers.
Also of note is that the BTR and the Yellow Bird are the only aircooled Porsches in the game, the rest have at least water cooled heads I believe.
So, aircooled performance in GT5 is pretty much limited to a hopped up VW Vans or Karmann Ghia and two RUF cars. Of course I wouldn't mind if they added Porsche so we could get the new light weight GT2 car they showed on American Top gear on Sunday (RWD 600 hp I believe)

I was running my Yellowbird at 592 PP last night. BTR and CTR2 are both high 580s.
Like I said, if I can figure out a suspension tune that helps me corner while touching the throttle, I'll run one of them. I have a BTR tuned to 500pp that handles quite well, but I doubt it will translate to a lighter, faster version.
@ Nick, it's not so much the drifting that bothers me, it's the random spinning and near constant tire spin that annoys me.
I tried the BTR. Not bad really, lots of fun tail out action, but I could not make up the PP diff since mine is only about 560 (might be time for a rebuild).
I have a CTR2 you can borrow air. The 3400s only runs in the 2:50s... I tried.

Turbo that E36 M3 son!
Mine's running 582 without the wing, 590ish with the wing. Wing looks goofy, but it's useful as hell.
Also painted it an oh so 80s gold.
Toss up right now between 5 cars, with the BTR and CTR2 the leaders. BTR because of the wing, CTR2 because of the 4wd.
Downsides to my choices, BTR is still kinda crazy, babying the car around the track keeps it on the road, no damage and doesn't eat rubber, but is about 13 seconds off pace. Too fast for the track going full out.
My CTR was setup as a rally car. Had to lower it and it still prefers drifting through corners to actually going through properly. FAST, but murders tires.
Good thing I'm more concerned with having fun tommorrow than winning, huh?
Internet problems this week got much worse tonight Hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to this one. I hope we have a good turnout.

I thought my ROC car was set, but I decided to take a look at some of the cars in my garage I had never driven that had pp's close to the 600 mark. Messed about with the McLaren F1 some more, it is much better with the aero added. Faster than my 430 Scuderia. Tried a Saleen S7. No aero mods allowed with this car for some reason. Wasn't my fastest nor my favorite, but it was fun.
Tried my SLR McLaren (bling bling wheel option) and was almost instantly hooked. I thought there was something wrong with my PS3 as the only sound was the engine note. No tire squeal hardly at all. Can't match the pace of the fastest guys (nothing in the the 2:20's yet), but pretty close. With my crappy TV I can't really tell how it does on tires. My right side tires are always green and the left side ones are either blue or red, but it is really hard to tell where the wear bar is. I know they are good for 3 laps anyway with RS tires.
I had it right at 600 pp, but after running a few laps it went up to 601 from breaking in. Have to do a little part swapping to get it back to legal.

I'm running the BTR.
Ran through some suspension tunes for the cars on my list:
CTR2: Doesn't drift as much, still eats tires.
G4: Still insane
88 Countach: Handles alright, but sluggish.
Yellowbird: Fast as hell, but less stable than the BTR, spins over crests and off camber corners where the BTR is fine.
BTR: Actually corners flat(ish), not much in the way of tail happy action, ridiculous acceleration, and most importantly, I had fun driving it. Only time it starts acting up is when I touch the grass or tire wear gets too much. Oddly, tires aren't an issue for this monster, the wear after one full out lap wasn't even noticable.
I ran clean laps in a fully tuned rear engined Ruf. I think it's safe to say the GT5 Calculator works.
Danke to Brad for pointing it out to me.
