Has anyone tried to connect to PSN today? I couldn't sign in last night or this morning.

It was down for me this morning.

Not sure what do to next week. Is that 10pm eastern? So one hour after our scheduled start? We could just skip a week, or possibly slide to Thursday.

Thursday should be good for me assuming the network is good to go by then. I couldn't connect this morning either. My practice times on and off line are very close though. This has certainly not always been true with some of the other tracks.

BTW, it sure is nice to finally run a track with some grass and the guard rails set back a bit.

Edit: a new program coming to Speed channel. I just saw an ad. for Nissan GT Academy where Gran Turismo players will compete in real cars.

The guy that won that competition, I've been racing against "online" since the first Gran Turismo. Beat him most of the time too.

I'm going to try to watch that. What a great opportunity for a young person.

He's not all that young. He's been autocrossing for years.

Meh... out for this week too... on a flight back from Chicago

Knew I wasn't going to make all the races, but I really expected to make some of the races.

I double checked the outage today and yes, it will occur 1 hour into our scheduled race. We could probably run one race, but we would still have to run the other one next week anyway, so we might as well just push to next week.

It would still be good to assemble at the normal race time though. We can test out running races in a lobby (if connection challenged F40 shows up), we can also do some experimenting for the ROC.

I would propose we do practice on the current track until normal start time then we can move on to more goofy stuff. Some things I would like to try:

  • Shuffle race (not sure what track, maybe Autumn ring)
  • Kart racing (?)
  • Open wheel racing (Indy full, or one of the road courses)
  • Nascar cars (maybe on that silly route 10 track again, that was fun)
  • Something at the Smugglers Run track maybe. (Grand Am type cars?)

Anyone have any suggestions let me know. For the open wheel we can always to a restricted pick to one car, since we would really only want to use that Gran Tourismo one anyway (no Ferrari's).

Not long races, just a few laps to see what works.

Grae- oh trust me, I was definetly gonna make this one, like you said, it comes to worse, AT LEAST run the GT. The Mustang does look good and it's funny you say drifting because I can slide nicely into some of the corners. Now, Saloon......drifting you said?? HAHAHAHAHA that is ALL the Jaaaaaag does at that track.

Air, connection challenged....I like that haha yeah I second the race on Thursday move, works for me.

Well, I can go on Thursday if needed, I guess it depends on how many we can get if we move it. Kinda suck to penalize someone because they can't run on a non-designated day.

If everyone can't make it, maybe I should just add an additional by to the series (it could only help to run the race, and not hurt to miss it).

Any thoughts on this Brad?

Not sure about thursday for me.... got a busy week, wasn't even sure if i could hit wednesday anyways.

Gotta run the Miata by the tuner so they can download the map and see if it's even salvageable tomorrow. Motor has to come out of the Escort sometime before saturday. Have to go pick up my transmission for the Escort, and drop off MX3 steering rack for some work. Then Thursday or Friday, Miata is getting re-tuned, what we find tomorrow will determine if it's from ground up, or just an extensive tweaking session.

Somewhere in there, i need to lay out and find my plan of attack for the cooling system and blower motor on the MX6.

PHEW.

This is not a course for big cars running in a pack. I forget, what are we doing again?

Way too easy to spin people out, it's tight, slick and traction is hard to find. Should be interesting whenever we get around to running.

It's aircooled's call... I'm only an interested advisor.

Although, if it pushes to next week I can probably race...

I think we will just push it. Even if we run it, we will only get one race in if their schedule holds. In that case we would need to run the second half next week anyway and would have to push next weeks to the week after.

Same result either way.

I will be online at the regular time (at least a half hour before post time) until the cutoff so we can do some practice and try some ROC ideas out. Hopefully our resident "kick boy" F40 can show up so we can see if the room is stable during a race even with his less then solid influence.

Besides, I think Brad should have to experience the demo derby that his track choice will likely result in.

Why is it so hard to find rooms where people aren't jackasses?

I join a free run at Top Gear, filled with loudmouth hood dialects bitching about people actually running the track and getting in the way of them drag racing. I was enjoying myself with my A310 on sports tires because it's so easy to drift without spinning out and exploding. Right up until some ass started trying to keep up with me in an NSX and crashing into me all the damn time. Tandem drifting doesn't work when one car is really slow and the other isn't being driven well.

Then I joined a room with Grae and Spyhunter, missed the race by a few seconds, then Grae went off, and my game froze up. Joined another room with spyhunter, tried to run a race with my Zonda C12. Normally does damn good at 500pp, but I'd been racing it a lot lately and it needed a chassis refurb. Which runs 196 grand. I finished next to last I think. Spyhunter left, and then I got told not to cut corners. Never did, went wide on quite a few, but last I checked, going into the wall exiting a corner doesn't help your times any.

berkeley it, I'll stick to making my own rooms or running in ones friends make. Grae, if you made the one I joined, here's a tip: If you don't want the room to turn into a clusterberkeley when you start filling up, limit the # of positions to 12 at max. 16 people always makes races a major pain in the ass to run.

The first race in Grae's room was great. People raced clean, from what I saw. Then in the new room, I missed the first race. Had someone use my 4 tires to aid their 4 tires in a corner, and another decide that instead of going around me, it would be better to "bump draft" me into the 1st corner on Daytona Roadcourse. I was in a BTR. Rear engined cars don't like that kind of thing. This was in 1 lap. I dropped out.

Next room... don't even get me started.

It's always a crap shoot, going into an unknown's room. Sometimes it is great, and you meet new and good drivers. Other times...

Oh, and Grizz...

That is a factory color that I was basing my BTR off of. There was a 911 Turbo, that vintage, in Road & Track years ago in that color. They had it parked on grass. The contrast was amazing. Wish I could find the actual pics.

I totally agree. Keep the car count down! Especially if you do a shuffle race or are running low power cars. A 12+ car shuffle race on a track like Monaco is ridiculous! Turning the mics off of course is a good idea.

The best luck I have had with general rooms is when I run at lunch and run with the Europeans. Those people just want to race clean! It's a bit harder finding interesting rooms with the Japanese at night. They seem to be more drifting or just track practice. Plus I can't tell what the heck the room note is, all those squiggly lines...

Americans = drag practice (!?!?!) Car trading (what is this, Pokemon?) or just asshats running into each other. Full contact races can be entertaining for a bit though.

Full contact racing on Daytona Speedway with no damage and max "catch up" whatever it is settings = a fun time

Yeah, there's a reason I stopped running my BTR in rooms that aren't mostly friends or people I know to race cleanly as possible. I've been spun out far too many times to enjoy the car. It's a shame too, because it's actually pretty good at 500, same as the Cerbera Speed Six, which also suffers from spin syndrome.

That is fantastic. I'm tempted to dig through my 1200 some odd paint chips and see what I've got that's close to it.

I've only had one room do well running shuffles or low power with more than 12 people, and that's because I was kicking the asshats after every race.

aircooled wrote: Turning the mics off of course is a good idea.

I just mute the loud or annoying, mostly because a lot of my friends use mics.

I have trouble staying connected to Euro or Jap rooms, plus the mouthier Brits get annoying pretty quick. Clean racing with the Euros is pretty easy to get, and I always think the Japanese are talking about me in the chat box. Not once have I heard a japanese person with a mic, I wonder why that is?

When I was looking last night, almost all the American rooms were drag racing or trading. Another one I don't get are the car shows, what's the point of that? It's really hard to find clean racing from Canadians, which I thought was surprising. Dirty rooms are entertaining for about two races for me, and then I get pissed off and go find a clean room.

That's the thing I don't get, there are so many people with Murican flags that want to race, and complain about not being able to race, but when I make a room for racing, those berkeleyers don't join!

The room that appeared to be mine was dumped on me and I didn't even know it. That's the reason it took forever to get the race started. I didn't know it was up to me, No, I didn't set it up and I ended up leaving it too because of the absurd shiny happy people that joined. Usually when I set up a room I include the word clean in the title. I also have min. damage and penalties. That way it's self policing . . . well theoretically anyway.

BTW, I suspect that the fast guys in the pp limited rooms are just lowering the hp output of really fast cars and kicking ass with them. Am I right? When I first joined that room, I lowered the hp on my Volvo C30, put some RS tires on it and won the first three races. Then the guy that opened the room got in his Ruf Boxter and was almost 5 sec./lap faster than me @ Deep Forest. Well, I'd expect a MR Boxter to be faster than a FF Volvo but with both @ 500pp, not THAT much faster.

I actually thought that last night was Wed. night and I kept looking for Air to set up a practice room @ Aut. Ring. It didn't hit me until this morning when I was on my way to a Drs. apt. that was on Wed. that I was wrong last night.

What is a shuffle race? I really have no idea. Also, what is boost, and how is it used?
