Boost just lets people who are behind catch up to get back into the race.

Think "Need For Speed slingshot" effect.

I typically bring the power down to make a car for the lower PP classes. And now that you mention it, most of the fast cars in those rooms probably do the same. I would presume you could be fast doing it the other way, though. Might have to give it a shot.

Yeah, that's the easy way... you get a huge powerband.

But because it's the easy way, not legal for our leagues!

Sounds like what I do.

Graefin10 wrote: BTW, I suspect that the fast guys in the pp limited rooms are just lowering the hp output of really fast cars and kicking ass with them. Am I right? When I first joined that room, I lowered the hp on my Volvo C30, put some RS tires on it and won the first three races. Then the guy that opened the room got in his Ruf Boxter and was almost 5 sec./lap faster than me @ Deep Forest. Well, I'd expect a MR Boxter to be faster than a FF Volvo but with both @ 500pp, not THAT much faster.

Depends on the car really, short of race versions most FWDs suck ass at 500PP. Some cars are still fast with lower PP, but some get too porky or lose too much power. Same with raising them up. Some are really fast, some not so much, traction issues or generally sucky handling means a lot of my 180 cars at 500PP don't get used.

Graefin10 wrote: What is a shuffle race? I really have no idea. Also, what is boost, and how is it used?

Shuffle races assign cars from a set list based on the results of the last race. Fastest you can get is the NSX, worst is the Life Step van, but you have to win with some utter crap to get stuck with that. If you win the race, you get a slower car, you lose you get a better one.

You can still game it though, if you run a snow or dirt course and the next is a tarmac course, if you pick cars before the host changes courses, you can grab some 4wd turbo goodness that will walk all over the turds they give for tarmac racing.

Hmmm, I did not know that. I thought it was purely random with all cars having the same PP's. I would like to see them give you a selection for the types of cars though (low, mid and high performance).

I did have fun one time in a larger group when I got a Delorian. A couple guys were talking crap about it and how sad it is I was stuck with it. I of course won that one and told them it's not what you drive, it's how you drive it.

Yeah, I tested it with a few friends, I kept winning and the cars got worse and worse, while last place kept getting better. Until I was being pushed around SS7 in the Step Van by an NSX.

Also, something else I remembered, every once in a while the game will glitch up and someone will continue getting the same car over and over again. Had it happen with one guy and an NSX.

Didn't really help him much as he couldn't drive the car on comfort tires, and I kept putting it on dirt tracks to try and get rid of the car.

Last night's practice session was a lot of fun. Now I know what a shuffle race is. Parking right before the finish line was the best move I made all night. That big fat 06 Eclipse GT was bad to the bone . . . relatively speaking. Then I got the VW Berea which was more than up to the task.

A few thoughts on the ROC selection. As far as the whole group is concerned the shuffle race series would be the most fun - probably done by running an odd number of venues and races to try to eliminate the possibility of a tie. Those of us who exist in a parallel universe to the likes of Air, Hunter, and Apex can feel more involved in the process by theoretically receiving a dominant car for a poor result. Last night showed that the cream would rise to the top in that event just as it would if we ran the Gran Turismo F1 cars or the NASCAR "stockers". Speaking of which, even though I think I did better driving that thing last night than I ever had before, Hunter and Air truly were untouchable for me. The really fast cars require skills to drive at the top level that few can master . . . especially without TC and ABS. Air, they may slow you down, but not me. They set up a situation where you just have to focus on timing and steering and dumb down the need to consentrate so much on not locking the brakes or spinning donuts on corner exit.

I don't know if you saw my post about LMP1 cars. Say 7 laps @ Daytona followed by 4 @ Lemans and if there's a tie for 1st. place 1 lap @ the full Nurburgring for the tie breaker. I don't mention this because I necessarily think it would be a super fun event for me personally because I suck running those cars without TC and ABS, but it would truly be a challenge for the contenders.

I opened a "Touring Car" room Fri. night that held up for quite a while. One guy hung in there with me for the duration. Most of the rest of them were French and Spanish speaking. I ended up with a Lexus TC and even though it just had a 5speed trans. it held it's own with the hp limited entrants chosen by most of the others. Next time I think I'll try a "Super Touring" class which will allow better parity and include the Japanese & German GTs. I kept hoping that some of you guys would show up.

Since Fri. I've had time to watch a few of the live streaming SCCA Runoff races from this site:

http://speedcasttv.com/#/races/253

The Runoffs are one of the most exciting motorsports events IMO. Of interest is that a D/SR now holds the lap record around Road America for all forms of club racing. 1000cc bike engine in a less than 800lb car with ground effects that are greater than the car's wt. @ 60mph. WOW!

The point is that it got me to thinking that WE could have our own runoffs. We could have Production, GT, Touring, Street Touring, Sedan, & Showroom stock classes. For our weekly events we could divide the numbers of classes into two parts and start with the slowest of all classes paired with the slowest of the faster classes. We could then work up to the fastest of the slower classes paired with the fastest class. The ROC could be old school Can-Am and the older Lemans prototypes held at Daytona Road course.

The production classes were well represented by all drivetrain and car body configurations. For example, the first 3 cars in E/P were: MX5, 240Z, and RX3. Also in the race were both 1st. and 2nd. gen. RX7s as well as at least one RX8. There was a very fast Elva Courier, an MGB, and a Lancia Scorpion.

Street Touring (ST/U) also had a wide range of cars and configurations. One of the fastest cars was a turbo Miata. Also there were 1st. gen. NA M3s and late model M3s. The parity was amazing.

In F/P the first three cars were: 1st. Gen Acura Integra, Miata, and Datsun 2000. I LOVE IT!

Cars like the Caterham could be configured to run in H/P to E/P. Other cars like the Spitfire, Elan, Europa, various Civics, etc. could also. Think of the configurations we could have in GT1 and GTL. I think there are 10 or more classes that we could run with the cars available in GT5.

Edit: Some of the above results were from this year's runoffs and some from last year. All are based on my memory, which I know longer bet on, but you get the idea.

Comments, Ideas please.

GRAAAH!

Stupid damn game freezing all the time. All I wanted to do was send some paint chips to a friend and max out all the RM cars I made last night.

No issues RMing 13 or 14 cars in one go, but try to put engine builds on them and the berkeleying game sticks.

Good bit though, the only RMd car you can't put dirt and snow tires on appears to be the ZR1. So far at least, I haven't gotten to the ISF yet. But if you can do it to the NSX, I don't see why the lexus wouldn't let you.

Best one I've driven is the Tuscan Speed Six. 560ish hp, high 800kg weight and absolutely no traction issues. Even with sports hards I still had to go through corners full throttle to get it to slide, and had to use the E brake to get it to drift. Plus, it likes the snow.

First of all, are you also Grizz? If not are you going to race tonight?

The PSN network has been screwy for two weeks now. Almost everytime I open a room on my lounge I loose connection. Has anyone been on without issues? I hope this doesn't happen tonight.

Very little practice for me the last two weeks. I've been fooling around setting up 300-500 hp race cars for touring and what I called "super touring". A car or two are available in the game that are referred to that way. I have managed to race a while with a few other guys who like these cars. The problem is that when I return to Aut. Ring with the GT and Saloon cars I can't stay on the track.

Hope to see you guys tonight.

Yeah, right, we've seen you in action before. I will say that practice on this track is very important, for me anyway. The precision of the lines you run is a must if you are to run consistent laps. I made the huge mistake of running some of those touring cars there on RS tires and going back to RH and SS tires is like returning to CS. I was pushing too hard and couldn't maintian the rhythm needed to be consistent, not to mention smacking the guard rails a few times. 48 laps plus qual, yikes. My only hope is that I'll not be the only one to have a few problems.

Well, apparently last week was a bit of a false alarm, no outage when they said there would be one. So this week is Autumn Ring Reverse.

We did a bit of testing for the ROC also, some good stuff. I think it would be fun (maybe not a ROC thing) to do shuffle races (maybe as a series). The thought would be to do a series of shorter races instead of one long race. To add to the uniqueness of each race, I was thinking we could use a custom course, then regenerate the course right before the race. Thus, everyone not only gets a car they may not know, but no experience with the course!

Not too much to say about this course. It is very hard to pass on because it is a bit tight and small. The only real passing spot seems to be 13, 12, 11 complex, which is a big area for less then perfect execution giving some good passing opportunities. Turn 12 is probably the hardest on the course with some careful braking required to do it fast.

For some reason (maybe off camber?) turn 6 seems to be a prime area for power oversteer, so take that exit slow.

Should be interesting. The big trick will probably be making your tires survive. It is very easy to burn up tires on this course. One of the nice aspects of the course is that the pits are easy to get into and should not cost you that much time (maybe less then half a lap?)

As a reminder, we will be running in my room (allaircooled) so look me up in community and connect from there. I am hoping we will eliminate our kick problem (hopefully Kicky Boy will show up to test this). I did get booted from Grea's room the other day but hopefully that was on his end. We will see...

...............I appear to have made another account without realizing it. Everywhere else it's grizzly, but I was a bit, um, inebriated when I joined up here and missed the ly. How I managed to make another without noticing is beyond me.

Yes, I will be racing tonight, as the landlord payed the cable bill. Fairly certain his cousin was supposed to, but those people don't even clean up after themselves.

It sucked. Air lost connection(Karma for all the "kick boy" jokes, I'm sure ) in the GT race, Concealer left, my power went out, and the only people left were Hunter, Grae, and Brad.

Saloon we ended up with Grae and Air racing, me parking it to eat, Brad leaving, and Hunter getting a phone call.

Not the best night, but there's always next week.

Also, I would have stayed after, but I got a call asking me to come help a friend of mine, only to get halfway there before I got a text saying "Nvrmnd".
