Great drift course.
Last night recap for me... not good.
GT: Got a just stupid bad start (thank you for not rear ending me, Hunter?). The first lap or so was very nice. A good tight pack (I guess the ABS helps). The pack got spread out, I settled in at 2nd. I was looking very good on tires about 6 laps in, then, while checking my tires, I caught a wall... DOH!. Figured I would try the old "even out the damage" trick... that didn't work! I don't know if it is the new physics model or what, but cars are pretty un-drivable with both front wheels damaged. Had to pit early... I don't remember the rest... argh.
I don't think I could have stayed with Hunter. I followed him and Grea at one point down the straight and could not pull any on them even with a bit of a draft. I guess the M3 is a bit faster top end.
Saloon: Got another bad start, but quickly caught up (by not braking quick enough, that got scary). I ended up sliding through the 1st corner. I though I was going to collect someone (Hunter?), but we seemed to make it through OK. Again, a great 1st lap or two. I was following Grea for a bit (a bit too close some times, sorry). I F'd up again at one point and had to pit early AGAIN, argh.
There seemed to be a lot of position swapping in this one. I eventually had to pit again and pulled out a few seconds behind Grea who was in 2nd. I was able to close on him and could see he was struggling a bit (low on tires I guess). I wasn't able to get past him on the back straight cleanly so I backed off.
On the 180 hairpin a few turns latter, he took a wide course and I was cutting in. There was a pretty big opening inside so I decided to drive through it (stupid, I just should have waited). I am not sure if Grea did a power oversteer, or he was clearing inside to let me go by (not seeing me), but he swerved right into my path and we hit. I waited for him, but typical of these situations, he took damage, I did not and he could not make it without a pit forcing him to loose another spot.
Really sorry about that one Grea, I cost you an easy 3rd. I should have just been patient, I could see you were willing to let me by. I actually didn't want you give me a pass, I wanted someone to race a bit with, poop.
Anyway, it seems like the ABS thing went pretty well. Didn't really change the finishing order any (my F ups had nothing to do with ABS), but it seemed like the first few laps were MUCH better than normal.
That pit exit (especially for Saloon) is like some sort of cruel joke! I had to put great effort not to slide straight into the turn 1 wall!
Also Grea: The few that stayed seemed to love Origami Road. It actually an excellent drift course (and no, it doesn't need a jump! ). Not as tight as I was expecting. We ran 2 or 4 quick Shuffles there, quite fun. It is a pretty wide track so it is probably best for higher PP cars. A pretty long course also, certainly no more then a 2 lap race, it even makes a very good 1 lap race.
I jumped on and was able to watch for a couple laps. It looked as if ABS allowed the controller drivers to be a bit braver in the first corner. This seemed to have a couple effects: 1. tighter group 2. more contact
Generally it seemed that there was more competition across the field, and everyone seemed to make it past lap 3.
So, I think it was a successful test.
I learned from GT and the pit exit directly into the corner. (The only way i could do it was if i came out with the brake mashed, then tapped the e-brake to get me drifting.)
So in Saloon, i said screw the DQ and ran with a car 200hp down on everyone else. It worked out pretty well, actually. If it weren't for the straights, i think i could have been somewhat competitive. The Mitsu Legnum Wagon seems to be a nice little car. I had fun with it.
RMD, next week i'll just try to stay with you for some dicing. I'll be staying with the Legnum for the remainder of the series.
PS: Tried the IS-F. Holy HELL NO THANK YOU. It's ridiculously fast, but the gearing makes it sure that you're spinning until 5th gear.
First of all, Air I really don't have any problem with the tap last night. I had just gotten on the gas when the tap came and the car quickly got sideways and hit the wall. I actually was trying to hug the rt. hand wall to let you by. Up until that point I was going to try to make it a little tough for you but the problem with my hands going to sleep has been horrible for the last three weeks events. Right before I pulled to the right they had started to hurt very badly and it was no longer possible for me to actually race with you. My main thought was that I didn't want to interfere with the possibility of you being able to try to work your way back up to Hunter. Man that guy is fast. None of the many taps I got in the rear caused me to sustain any damage last night and I don't think they caused any of the "tappers" any. I was fighting a high level of fatigue and I suspect that that is the way life will be for me for the forseeable future. Still it did me more good than harm to participate last night. Something to do and think about other than the current norm. So I still hope to show up and will still do my best.
Congratulations to you Hunter for another pair of impressive victories. This is me after seeing you dissappear into the night after a pass.
Grats. to you too Grizz. I didn't check to see if you were running ABS or not but nevertheless it's good to see you running hard on what to me is a very difficult course.
I had to pit 4 times IIRC in GT for wall hits. From my perspective I could run a lap exactly the same as the lap before and the front end would skitter off line and BLAM into the wall.
In Saloon I must have gotten one heck of a launch because I came out of T1 in P1 . . . and stayed there for several laps. Before I turned off the PS I watched the first couple of laps to see how I managed to get through safely to P1. The ABS helped me more in Saloon than in GT. Also, for whatever reason, the M5 was much more predictable than the M3 last night. I'm sure the settings weren't right but I don't really know what the problem was. As the tires went away so did the car's predictability. That combined with numb hands and BLAM! Fun while it lasted.
Celica and RMD, I was glad to see both of you hang in there in Saloon. No matter where we finish the next track, Cape Ring, is fun to run on.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed Origami Road. If we end up racing on it you may know it and I, not so much. Hey, I did put a straight in it . . . sort of.
Some say that moonshine runs through his veins, and that he knows 200 ways to say truck. All we know is, he's the Stigs hillbilly cousin!
First off, Grea, sorry to hear things aren't going that well. I understand nerve issues, as I am dealing with spondylolisthesis. Nerve issues are not fun. Thankfully, I can get relief by simply sitting down. Usually. At any rate, I can sympathize.
Second, that course was rough. I found a flow, but it wasn't obvious. And still wasn't that great. I am glad that the inclusion of ABS has made it more enjoyable for those using the controllers. When I tried the controller on Trail Mountain, getting consistent braking was DEFINITELY a challenge. And I imagine this last track would have probably been worse!
I had a much better time, with ABS, even though I didn't have a straight panel by the halfway point in each race.
Thanks Hunter. Good luck with your ailment too.
I'm paying the price for not taking care of my body. Not enough sleep, too much stress, smoking, to much heavy drinking, many times not enough regular exercise, and if it slowed down eat it. Madness! Younger guys, it's worth consideration.
I ran about 3 laps in each class @ Cape Ring today. I really like that course. I also ran 3 laps @ Origami Road with a Cusco Subaru GT 300 car. That is a fun track. Their are two tricky parts that can easily do damage. I'm sure you guys that tried it out noticed the blind down hill right hander and the decreasing radius entry to the main straight. Other than that is rather easy to find a flow on it. I hope we do end up using it. I intentionally made it wide and most turns are banked to the max allowed.

Thanks. I was running ABS that night, but I really wasn't braking much differently than I do without ABS. Light on the brakes through and braking early into corners, but there was no lockup whatsoever so I wasn't freaking out as much. Got a suggestion btw, if you're running ABS, try bumping the rear brake bias up a bit, helped my turn in a lot.
I'm gonna test it at Cape Ring in a bit, but I think my cars really like running on stiff suspensions. Either that or I like running them on really stiff suspensions. The back spring rates on both cars were about close to maximum at SS5 and they were quite smooth and dialed in.
GT: I had a good start, with ABS I'm alright, but still not fast enough to keep up with Hunter, Grae and Air. Car was running fantastically, great on tires and only got damage twice as far as I remember. Probably could have been more competitive, but I didn't have the DB9 geared high enough for the straight and it never was as fast as the turbos and lighter cars acceleration wise.
Saloon: Sad start like always, but there isn't much I can do about it with 660 ftlbs. Again, car was fantastic, only got damage once, no real traction issues, understeer was gone, and I probably wouldn't have had to pit at all were it not for the damage. Damn M5s keep destroying the rest of us, but Grae pit close to the end and I managed to snag third.
Hopefully the cars stay in good form, because I much prefer two thirds to a bunch of DNFs and last places.
E: Just got done some testing at Cape Ring, and the cars do seem to like the stiffer suspension setups. There appears to be next to no grip on this course though, and a lot of the corners are going to give us issues, I'm sure. Quite a few require letting off the gas in the middle or braking way sooner than you think you need to. The ring especially, stay out of the lower red or you're gonna spin or get thrown into a tire killing slide. Both cars were eating tires and drifting a bit, same with a couple of others I ran. With more testing I should be alright, but I'm not entirely sure I'll ever get the hang of the course.
Wife is out on a girl's night... boy is asleep... my football team lost...
...any up for some Spa tonight? I got 60-90 minutes in me.
damn, I would have joined you.....if I wasn't suckin down..alcoholic jello
how did you get THAT much through Graefin lol
Grizz made it for a race. It was a good room, 8-10 for the races, usually a gap of less than 1 minute covering the whole field.
I can't get under 2.13 at Spa (625PP). Anyone have a tip or two?

Like I said, I put my boys to work. Anytime I want a high $ car I do that. I also do it when there's an upcoming series that requires a lot of purchases to compare the cars. I think most of us tested quite a few HH cars to choose one. Still there was a lot of diversity.
OK, my turn for a question: I know what alcohol is and I know what Jello is but what is alcoholic jello?
^ Brad knows yeah, Halloween party. This girl brought like 300 of the damn things, lots of tasty flavors!
Graefin10 wrote: OK, my turn for a question: I know what alcohol is and I know what Jello is but what is alcoholic jello?
Make Jello with alcohol instead of water. It's difficult, at best, to make them at home, and still be 'alchol'. Jello typically involves boiling water, to disolve the powder. Obviously, boiling alchol reduces it's effect. Then, there's the whole 'getting alchol to set' part.
I prefer my alcohol without jello, thank you very much

Grizz made it for one, and needed to fix his Challenger. That car was so freaking fast on the straights, but I kept screwing up in the corners. It made me laugh to look back and see my car walking away from the stealth GTR like it was nothing. Did alright for a while, screwed up on lap two(I think) and ended up at the back, was catching up to 5th place quite quickly, but muffed it going into a corner with another guy and decided to stay back.

Oh, and Hunter, lookie what I found...

Being an old fart and all, when I think college, jello shots isn't what I remember.
Went to an Allman Brothers / Goosecreek Symphony concert with a girl one night and she brought her special blend of "tea". Don't think it contained any jello or alcohol at all. I asked her what was in it and she just said "oh, don't worry about it, it's good".
I've had that tea before. As a fan of tea in general though, I gotta say that one does not taste good at all.
I entered a couple of Spa rooms this afternoon and I'll have to buy it as soon as I figure out how to.
The first room was a drift only room so I had to manuever around the drifters and the second room was a 729hp/1100kg. race room with the DL turned off. The cars were too fast for a newb. to the track. Fun though. I wonder why they eliminated the bus stop? Must have had some bad crashes or something.
