How can I blow tomorrow night's race? Let me count the ways. That's mostly what I discovered tonight. And even though I discovered it surely doesn't mean I won't blow it in one of those ways. You know it really doesn't matter as long as you can stay in the draft because running on this track solo just isn't any fun at all.

If you lose the draft, you're boned.

I really wanted to practice, last night. Have no idea if any of my Neckcars are broken in, and have no idea about gearing. Wife had a VERY long day. Didn't get home until 8:15. No lunch. So, it was pamper her time. Hope to make it tonight, though.

Some notes on tonight:

  • Set gearing to around 250-260 mph if you haven't tested.
  • Turning down the downforce all the way will give you about 5-10 mph top end.
  • It's not as easy to drive as I originally envisioned, the turns can be tricky (both the kinks and the turn arounds).
  • If you loose the pack, find a buddy and draft back up. Not sure if bump drafting, or swapping back and forth is quicker. I am thinking zooming past each other is a bit faster (certainly higher top speeds).
  • Penalties will be OFF. A strong bump draft will get you a penalty otherwise. Damage will be set to light.

Hopefully we get a good crowd tonight, more the merrier on this course.

Brad:

How do we get the Series 5 thread Locked and this one released?

Let me know if anyone has any questions / clarifications for the Series 5 Thread / Rules

I'm quite certain that "zooming past each other" is the best way to move forward as fast as possible. Also it's much safer. Easy to wreck the guy in front.

I also have a suggestion. For the first 5 laps or at least 4, co-operation may be the best policy. Decide on a lane in the straights and stay with it. Last night I tried both and I think the right lane is my best "cruising" lane. So when I make a pass, if possible I'll get to the right. the purpose of this is that the guy trying to draft past you will be coming at about 30 mph faster than you are. If he aims for the left while you're in the right lane and you swerve over to try to block you may wreck both cars causing you both to drop back. If he successfully passes you, you have a car ahead to draft up to speed from. We never got that going too well last night but I'm sure it will work if all of us relate to it.

Look I realize that I may be the first to drop back beyond hope of catching up but it sure will be fun for all if we can hang together until lap 4-6. I was running last night with min. downforce on the rear and about 1/3 on the front to get it to turn in fast. I think for tonight I'm going to back it all the way off as air suggested.

I guess it's my gearing but my car seemed to be as fast as his and Nicks but slower to get to top speed. Don't quite understand it yet but tonight will tell the tale.

Good luck everyone.

The results are in:

1 - Allaircooled

2 - Baelwerker

3 - Greafin10

4 - GTP_Spyhunter

5 - RealMiniDriver

6 - NickF40

Turns out the 250-260 setting was a bit low. I was bouncing off the rev limiter at about 249 (the setting are of course a bit inaccurate). Turns out tires were an important factor. I think I beat Bael out on the last lap because his tires didn't let him take the last kink fast enough.

Fun night tonight even though I screwed up a lot. Nick if I could have stopped wrecking you . . . We had it going on there for over two laps.

I didn't really realize until tonight that they actually modeled side drafting into the game. That's why all of us were swerving so badly when a car drafted past. It sucked us in that direction. That and lack of finesse on the throttle got me tonight.

Air and Grizz you two did a great job to keep that up for 6 laps. Congratulations to both of you. I finally saw what got Hunter but I'll let him tell it.

The shuffle races are fun. Hard to get to handle on some of the cars though. Especially the RWD ones. Looking forward to the series though.

The turn around, I could either blast on the throttle, burn what little tire I had left and die trying to catch you, or go smoothly and hope to catch enough of a draft that I could catch up.

Strategery has failed me yet again

Although, having close to max aero did help me quite a bit. I noticed I went through the corners a bit faster than you guys did, least until my tires went down.

That's what that was? I wondered why it was so damn hard to drive. That was actually one of the more challenging races I've done on gt5, which is surprising considering the track.

It was a blast.

Situational awareness got Hunter

Yes. the middle range for PP has a ton of tunery 4wds in it. Races filled with evos and stis get boring fairly quickly, but it was pretty fun later on.

After just a tap on the brakes, to avoid hitting Nick going into the first turn-around, I lost the pack. 30 seconds down on the first lap. :( Oh well, I had pies to bake for today, and was getting "the look" from Mrs RMD, anyhow.

I send Scott Lear a PM with the new thread link and ask him to sticky it, and un-sticky (is that a word?) the old thread.

Hate that I missed last night (again), my man-cave is currently buried in baby toys, and the wife and I spent last night prepping for hosting Thanksgiving at our house.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

I went to work Tuesday at 6:30 AM and left at 3:35AM Wednesday morning. Then I went back in at 6:00 PM Wednesday night and got off at 9:30 this morning. Have to go back tonight.

I've had better Thanksgivings and RMD if you think you got the look for playing too much GT5, you should've seen the look I got for agreeing to uproot my family and move 1000+ miles to a new job that contray to what I was led to believe includes not only overtime hours, but now shiftwork and then ruin all of our Thanksgiving plans by being either at work, asleep, or too tired to really function all that well.

I doubt I will make more races in series 5 than I did in series 4....and that was one race out of one the two classes.

I guess having a job is better than not having one, even if it less than ideal. I'll try and be thankful for that as well as all the good things in my life.

Wow T.J., sounds like you're going through a rough patch. I hope things settle down soon for you and Brad. My 90 yr. old aunt once told me to always remember, "this too shall pass".

I'm not complaining. I enjoy all the time I am able to spend with my son. I just need to do a better job of planning ahead, so that when he goes to bed I don't have a million other things to do and can come race.
