I think we've finally stumbled on the right cadence for these, a 2-month build with a month off in between for rest and prep for the next round.

So, we're taking May off, and running from June 1-July 31 is "Corvette Summer" with the theme baked in from the movie. Your challenge is to build something campy, or a Corvette. As always, feel free to build whatever you want, the challenge is more of an inspiration if you don't already have an idea.

This theme was cemented by my prize for winning April Foolish...

Yes, it's awesome, and yes, I'm building it for the challenge, fox decals and all.

You have a couple of weeks to prepare.

I just want to point out, Javelin came up with this theme before he knew what prize he was receiving, but after I mailed it out.

Sometimes things just work out.

Order placed. Not sure if I'll finish or even start (the heavy chevy took a lot out of me) but I figure I can box stock this one and it'll qualify.

Zoomies on a van? Total WIN.

The "Formula T/A" would be an odd duck to build. It's a Trans-Am with a Formula hood cut out for the shaker.

I love that monstrosity. I'm going to force Mrs. Javelin to watch the movie with me.

Remembering that movie earlier today (shudder) it was a shame it turned out like it did.  The story concept was pretty good, just the execution was hopelessly 'B' grade.

So I had 3 ideas for this build.

Idea the first: A rotary swapped C5 corvette. Just as a nod to all the LS swapped FD's out there. I opted out because I'd need to buy 2 kits an do a bunch of custom work. I'd like to do easy this time.

Idea the second: The General Lee. Kinda. Nobody likes losers or racists, so I'd switch it up a bit.

My own take on the civil war mopar. It's a cool idea but would require custom decals and I don't know a thing about that. So into the someday file with that idea.

Idea the third: A VW Westfalia camper van. Get it? Campy. I'm literally a comedian. As much as I like this idea for the contest, I don't really have any strong desire to have this thing on my shelf afterwards.

So after some searching I came up with this:

What's more camp than Burt Reynolds smuggling Coors light into dixie? I can build it box stock (sans the traitor flag license plate) and have no problem adding a 2nd gen F-body to my collection.

Ooooh, Javelin, you just had to go and poke the bear. Corvette Summer is the reason I have such a Corvette fetish. And probably cool custom vans too. There's a resin kit of the Vette but I've never worked with a resin kit before. I may watch the movie again to look for inspiration. Actually, I just had a thought while typing this but I think I need to research first.

Inspiration for you.

Having built the Trans-Am back in the heyday of "Smokey & The Bandit", the Monogram one is far superior to the MPC one.  I foolishly sold my completed one years ago.

Gee I have several unbuilt Corvette kits....Anyone have a way to make time for me to build one? Full scale cars (mine and customer's) are filling my time card.

Campy...70s vans...hmmm.

Does a Coke van qualify? Maybe if I put mag wheels on it...

Or I could go with the Cruising Van...

Or a surfing van?

Or I could dig out the custom Pinto I started on.

It arrived today.

So what's the etiquette here? Do I keep it sealed until the 1st or can I start picking away at it?

I have about 40 Fallout minis that need painting, a 3D print of a Canifax that still needs assembly and a 1:1 scale Z28 that needs... everything.

Ideas for those with more disposable income. Rare kit #1: actual Vette van combines 2 of the campiest 70s trends.

Rare kit #2: 6 wheel van with minibike. I really wish I could do this one.

Just bide your time. Round2 will reissue that van eventually.

Yes, do it. But you have to hide a little digital speaker inside with sound track between Dom Deluise and Burt Reynolds from the movie!
