So, i didn't play this year. However,  i wanted to give a shout out to indy guy!

He made my day. Genuinely. Out of the blue he sent me a letter and almost exact hotwheels replica of my miata!

Thanks, indy. I needed that today.

You're welcome.  Sorry it took so long for me to finally getting around to sending it and formally giving you a proper "Thank you"  Glad it lightened up your day yes

I got a box!!!

Or rather, my wife got a box. I'm back in southern Alabama, all of about 60 miles from my GRM secret Santa.

Pictures to follow. Stay tuned.

______________

Edit: so let me lead off by saying my wife is such a sport. She got right into the spirit of the GRM NYG.

Grendel the Dutch Shepherd starred as this year's obligatory ridiculous box opener:

Apparently this is what pointy-eared dogs are good for in the InKansas household.

Giddy with excitement. Such good fun to get a photo and play "I spy" with it. A Swedish dog dish:

A nipple clamp and a coolant cap:

Some garage idol art (is there particular backstory here? I know who it is):

Crunchy things and "the new ketchup!":

Bbq sauce and biscuit mix (wife said the sauce is "amaaaaziiiiing":

Some new cars for my collection:

A timer and accelerometer, pretty interested to play with this:

Some miscellaneous and GOOD LORD ITS ANOTHER NIPPLE CLAMP surprise:

And a really sweet sticker haul. Think my favorite is the Shadow one, that may go on my flight helmet:

And the whole haul:

Pretty sure the wife laid claim to the shells, the paint can openers, the tweezers, the tire pressure gauge, and the snacks.

And maybe the keychains.

Thanks, Birmingham! I really gotta step up my game next year.

In reply to JohnInKansas :

I went with a bit of a chain mail theme. The hubcap is a legacy item. The stickers, I kept some from my box last year and added some new ones. Oddly, same with the shells. I got a bag of shells last year, so I added to it and sent it on. The picture is AJ Foyt, a little known racer who did some things up in Indiana. A family member found out that I liked cars so they gave me several, I don't know why I need more than 1, so I'll share.

The accelerometer worked last time I tried.

Also the chip protecting divider was some of the on box art from last year.

The snacks from last year were a favorite.  I thought I would share some local flavors.

I was a bit too eager putting the box together I forgot a note explaining and a Christmas card.

The cigar is going on 5 years old, sooooo.... enjoy?

Kentucky to New York.   This has taken forever!!  Seriously USPS, I could have walked it there in this time.   I'll be curious to see what condition the package arrives in.

I got a box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And the first thing I'm noticing is much bigger and heavier than the one I sent (I gotta up my game!)

And of course, my helper was SUPER excited to help me open it :)

Lets take a look at what sort of loot got sent my way:

OOh!  We have a beer coozie, a keychain beer opener, a beer opening drill bit, a voucher that I am definitely redeeming for a beer, some spice for a rub while we drink said beer, a pin, and a sanitary wipe to clan up spilled beer!

Crikey!  Syrup (still in the bottle), multiwrench with gender bending attachment, shop safety, off-road safety DVD (my kids will LOVE this.  we were just watching the Icelandic nitro trucks on youtube), Grant steering wheel button (I've owned at least three grant wheels in my day), locks with keys, the largest socket I've ever seen( 3-1/4"!!!!), and an aftermarket combination inclinometer/accelerometer!

STICKERS!!!!!!

All this excitement woke up helper #2, who joined the party just in time to see....

.

2ea 10mm sockets, one license plate from Maine and one from New Hampshire, a service manual for a 1970 Opel Kadett GT (super cool!), a musseloader magazine (which I love!  I very much wanted to get more into black powder before I left the states), and a program from the 2019 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix!  Super cool!

I'm going to put some of this stuff to work right away, thanks Preach!!!

Ninja edit:  PREACH!  I just read the inventory you sent via e-mail.  Those locks are going to be perfect for my kids tool box!  I handed them down a craftsman toolbox box when I upgraded to the giant Kirkland unit I have now, but had to break their locks off because the keys got lost in the move.  This is awesome!

The installation of the accelerometer/inclinometer was easy enough.  The SR5 models of this particular 4-runner came standard with a dash mounted unit, but I find the mirror mounted aftermarket units to be much more convenient as you dont have to take your eyes off the road to know when you're going to roll over sideways.

Taco Vatos decal successfully installed.  I really need to get out and see if these guys have a site or a forum somewhere.  I've got an overlanding trip planned a year from now, and I bet they'd get a kick out of this thing putting around on this side of the pond.

Standard issue husky (that comes with all 1980's Toyotas) approves of the sticker install.

Haha, this is great! My wife and I just got to share the victim's demise and chuckle at the excellent commentary.

Not sure if the Vatos have a website but I am sure they will be happy with the representation 7000 miles away.

Mine's been delivered for over a week and no signs of it in here. Makes me sad.

Sorry about that.  Been a nutty couple weeks and I realize that I unboxed and took pictures, but never posted.

I'm assuming you sent it to me...because....

"Land of Broken Hyundais", in Indiana.  Just a wild guess.

First layer!  Carpet cleaner, degreaser, and I think a trouble light with a flex tripod.

Plug wire, mirror switch (Hyundai?) and a tire gauge.  Also a big worm-drive hose clamp, which are one of the most useful things under the sun.

Random starter.

Cargo net, and a lengh of braided hose.

Wow.  Double-drive socket set.  I've got the double-drive screwdriver and I love it.  This will make an awesome addition to the go-bag.  Lastly...

WOW.. That's a really, really nice set of plug wires.  I need to step my game up.  Thanks, man.

In reply to psteav (Forum Supporter) :

Don't... those wires have been sitting in the garage for 3 years. I bought them for the truck, ordered the wrong ones and by the time I was ready to use them unreturnable.

EDIT: The switch is for the wife's 2012 Rio. Nothing wrong with it but the new door trim had a new one in it too. Cargo net was from the 2008 Rio. Plug wires I believe are for a points style distributor. The braided hose is the old throttle cable sleeve for the C10. Screw clamp was one I took off the Tib. The carpet cleaner is one of dozens I got when I worked for acura. Stuff's really good. The green cleaner from 2019 Challenge. I looked for some C4 stuff but I think I finally pitched it all.

EDIT Dos: The starter came off the 2008 Dixie Chopper 23hp Kohler V-twin.

You're welcome.  It's a beautiful piece of modelwork that a friend of mine made several years ago.   I got it in an "Italian auction" and everyone loved it.   Unfortunately I don't have a worthy place for such a piece of art in my home and it ended up in the attic.   I hope you are cleverer than I and either build it out for use or have a stone fireplace mantle where it can be displayed as it deserves.

An Italian auction is a thing George Schweikle introduced our region to.  Apparently the Alfa guys used to do them as fundraisers.

At our annual awards banquet, everyone is requested to bring an item or two to be auctioned off in order to raise money for a charitable cause.   But the items are all in boxes and wrapped in plain newspaper so you have no idea what you're bidding on.   Could be something awesome like a 40" triple cockpit speedboat, could be a bag of kitty litter.  Only the fates know ahead of time.  Once I even bought back a model motorcycle I'd donated (derp).
