Mmmmkay. I have no berkeleying clue what I'm doing, so a quick tutorial would be helpful.

Yeah, I did that.
We could really use 1 more player, or the schedule is going to SUCK.
Pick the best player available to meet your team needs. Our league is set with 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 2 TE a Flex player(RB, WR or TE), a LB, Defense/Special Teams (Just basically pick a team with a good D) and then a kicker. Plus then 7 players of your choice to fill the bench roles to cover for injuries, byes, etc.
Kickers and Defense should go later, since they aren't going to score the bulk of your points week in and week out. Our league being only 7 teams should be pretty competitive and stacked with good players. The ESPN rankings are usually pretty good to go off of. They include projected stats, last season stats, bye weeks and really anything else you need to know. Scoring is traditional (that means a little more biased towards RBs) but that should have little impact since we are going to have a really deep league.
By comparison, my last draft was a 14 team league. I drafted 14th. All of us in this league will have picked twice by the time I got my first pick.
And if you have no idea whats going on, just let the computer pick because 9/10 times you get a pretty good team that way.

You build your team by drafting players from all over the league. You get 1 QB, 2 RB's, 2 WR's, 2 TE's, 1 flex (RB or WR), a Kicker, and a Defense/Special Teams. Plus a bench full of spares (mostly for the bye weeks).
Go to the "My Team" tab and find "Pre-Draft Rankings", then re-arrange until it will draft the order you like.

Cool. Thanks guys.
So how do I set my "draft priorities" or whatever, per bluej's suggestion? That's what I'm kind of unclear on. Do I just start picking players after 8, or can I pick them now or what?
In reply to poopshovel:
If you are picking live tomorrow, then you just click on the player you want. If you aren't a berkin nancy and have a life, you set it to Auto Draft. There's a button under the Pre-Draft Rankings one that says "Edit Draft Rules" or some such. Then you can tell it who/what to target with each pick.
Sorry I was a little unclear. You'll probably only want to touch the overall player rankings, if anything, and leave the other draft strategy settings alone. Thst means if you find yourself in the page that lets you choose "best available", "qb/rb", "rb", etc for each pick/turn in the draft, just leave it alone.
In reply to poopshovel:
You have to set your own rankings for the Auto Draft to truly work well.
Live draft is actually a lot of fun with your buddies (in my regular game we have a live chat going during the draft with E36 M3 talk galore).
Yeah, berkeley that E36 M3. I'll do the live draft. I don't need to be there with my finger on the trigger at 8, do I?
In reply to poopshovel:
for the live draft, yeah pretty much (there at 8). that's why I need to auto draft
So apparently I'm berkeleying retarded, as I can't figure out how to do the "edit draft list/pre-rank player" E36 M3, even with this:
http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/content?page=fflrulesautopickdraft2009
In other words: HOW THE berkeley DO I PICK MY GODDAMNED PLAYERS? I've spent a berkeleying hour trying to figure this E36 M3 out. "Join a fantasy league" they said "It's easy and fun!" they said. They seriously can't just put a berkeleying "pick your players" tab somewhere on the home page? WTF?
In reply to poopshovel:
SET YOUR DRAFT LIST If your league uses either the Live Online or the Autopick draft method, you have the option to pre-rank the players. The Pre-Rank Players page can be accessed from either your main team page or from the top-left of the League Office page. On the page, rank the players in the order of your preference. The current rankings are displayed under the Saved column. To change these values, enter your new ranking in the New column. Your changes will not be saved to the server until the Save Rankings button is clicked on the page. For Autopick draft leagues, the order of players determine the order in which players are drafted to your team (the system selects the highest ranked player who is still available). For Live Online draft leagues, the rankings are only used if you do not pick a player in the allotted time limit (and you have no players on the pending pick queue).
NOTE: Once the draft lists are released, the system does not make any additions to the list of players, nor does it change any positions for players.
now that it's within an hour of the draft, you can actually enter it. once there, drag players from the left of the screen, to the "Player Queue" in the middle-right. you can build a list and as players are picked by you or other teams, they will disappear from the "Player Queue". It's one of those things that's easier once you're doing it and a little hard to explain before hand.

Good synopsis.
I kind of get it now that it's in action. I should've ranked more players. Didn't realize I couldn't rank them until an hour before the draft. And I'm kind of hooked, which is what I was afraid of, and why I haven't done it until now. Mama thanks you. shiny happy people.
I probably should've just let the computer pick for me. Big Ben is my QB. Throwin picks, assaultin' chicks. Destined for failure.

It's basically a way for guys who like to read stats to give those stats some meaning. It also gives me an excuse to pay attention to games that normally I wouldn't be interested in.
Never been in a league that required a LB before, though. That's going to be a little weird.

I just put Romo on waivers. You should totally grab him.

BWAAAAAAHAHA! My first order of binniss was "Who got Godgers???" Nice score.
This should be interesting to see scoring. Even though its traditional everybodys team seems really good. Considering there are guys that are still free agents in this league that I will be relying on as every week duties in other leagues. Should be very competitive.
So I know I'm all high maintenance and E36 M3, but like, now what? Specifically; I've got an injured TE who I didn't know was injured, and will most likely be out for at least the first two games of the season, and no TE to fill his spot.

Set your starting lineup before kickoff tomorrow night.
Hope your starters have a better week than those of the team you're up against.
Drink.
Repeat
You can also check the undrafted list and see if there's anyone you'd like to jettison in order to grab someone off the waiver wire.
Now's also a good time to check your depth and the schedules of your starters. For instance, if you only have two TEs on your roster, eventually one of them is going to have a bye week. You may want to start looking for some help in that area so you don't have a week where one of your guys isn't contributing.
The "money" players are nice to have, but leagues are won and lost with the deep picks. Like a kicker that goes nuts one week and puts up a few 45+ yard FGs. Or a defense that runs back a couple interceptions for touchdowns.
TE seems to be the hardest position to manage, because you have such disparity of production. You have guys like Tony Gonzales who puts up WR numbers, but 2/3 of the TEs in the league are just glorified fullbacks. They may only catch 2-3 passes a week. So finding a TE that actually contributes is a big plus.
