Just because you can drive straight at someone, doesn't mean a car won't ghost. I have been in several online races. I have seen lag. Cars jump all over the place. You can't pin down where they will be next. That is the lag I have seen. This is different. It is happening at specific times, and the car goes from opaque, to translucent. Seems odd to me that the race would be going smoothly, no issues with lag, except RIGHT when I might hit someone. Not that you CAN'T hit someone. You can. I have seen that, too.
Can you provide some empirical data that it is lag? Is it actually documented somewhere?
If you turn around and drive the wrong way on the track, you will have crashes, because you will not ghost. I can't make it any clearer than that.
I had heard there was supposed to be ghosting for wrong way drivers, but I have not seen that.
What we saw was not lag that I have seen. As MBS said, lag causes all sorts of weird jumping. It may be a new way to deal with lag, but I saw no indication of his position skipping (which would almost have to happen with lag)
You WILL ghost if you get a penalty (e.g. cutting across a corner) while the game slows you for the penalty. It may have been a penalty for hitting me, but he never actually hit me (maybe that is part of it). I actually did the same to him earlier and did hit him (I waited for him to recover), but I got no penalty (maybe I wasn't going fast enough).
So there IS ghosting that is not lag.
That is ONE instance of not ghosting. One. That does not mean it doesn't exist. I have listed specific events where someone HAS ghosted, right as a specific event was about to happen, and ONLY when that event was going to happen. I cannot be clearer, either. ;)

sorry I missed last time! i had a paper due on wednesday (which barely got in on time as it is)
This tuesday, though, I'm done with classes, and if my head doesn't explode before then, i'll be there. Currently I have a dillema. In prepping my '71 'Stang for the indy road course, The amount of power seems to have little to do with my lap times. I can either go for wildly overpowered and have a slidy, tire shredding failed attempt to keep tires from dissapearing, or less power and have an easier time controlling the thing, especially when tires are wearing. Both seem to produce lap times within a tenth or so, but the overpowered approach is much more fun.
I just did a few laps at Indy with my CM car. There is a very good chance of wall hits (and resulting pit stops) with this one. That first corner after the long straight is going to turn into a game of chicken every lap.
I need to get some practice in before the race.
@aircooled... can you host this week? I have a family christmas dinner that night and I'll be pushing it to get back for the GRM class race.

Still plenty of spots available, still no penalty for missing a race. Come join the fun!
I will try and open up the lobby sometime after 5 pst (6,7,8,9) to allow practice / qualifying. I will try to set the restrictions so that you can practice with both CM and GRM class cars (you will have to make sure your CM has the comfort mediums on it).
At least 5 min before the race (6,7,8,9,10) I will change the setting to allow qualifying (fasted laps during that time).
Notes: Make sure you have ABS turned off and stay off the walls!

Small turnout this time, just me and Rufledt.
It was a FC vs FD for the GRM match. Rufledt pulled ahead and just kept increasing his lead, so he wins GRM
CM has an interloper, but he was nice, he was driving an S2000. He and Rufledt pulled away from me again and it looked like they had some good racing. Again Rufledt won, so a double header for him.
Hopefully next week we get a few more. The CM take a lot of concentration.

Yes, we did get XP and money. I think 3rd for the first race was something like $16,000. I suspect 1st was somewhere around $20,000
