I gave my truck a little tune up (new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil) and wanted to share how hilariously bad the plugs I replaced were. I'm surprised it ran as well as it did. Ford spec for the gap is 0.052-0.054 and each of these was 0.07+, not to mention the rust.

Bonus distributior rotor and cap pics

Haha, you're probably right. The truck is 26 years old with 156k.

I have owned FAR too many crusty old trucks......

Looks like a 5.0 efi cap and plug wire. Msd makes better replacement parts than most normal replacement parts.

I used to work for a yacht maintenance company. Lots of boats with twin V8s.

It wasn't uncommon to find different brands of spark plugs from side to side on the same engine. The owners would do the easy ones and then give up.  The outboard plugs were nearly impossible to access, especially with raw water cooling. Outboard plugs were always originals. And it was even worse when we would pull the boats out in November and winterize them. So cold down in there. Sometimes, changing 16 spark plugs was an all day job.

I went all Ferd for the parts, and Autolite for the plugs. It was cheap enough to go OE so I figured why not.

At least the rust is on the part of the plugs that isn't in the cylinders.

I worked with an older guy who said it was not uncommon to find V8 G-bodies with original spark plugs at #8, because people (shops) would change the relatively easy ones and figure, eh, seven new is better than none.  Said he would find some with .125" gap, after 100k miles and who knows how many "tuneups".
