1984 straight six, four speed stick; born & raised in Phoenix.
Looks-wise, that is my favorite generation of F-Series. That sample looks exceptionally clean. Congrats on the pick-up.
Wire transfer, willing to hold it until the truck gets there.
The only thing I question: Ad and Badges say F-100 yet it has two gas tanks like an F-250 or lower geared camper model. Was that an option?
Dan
BTW: Will be selling a 1990 Scottsdale in the Spring.
Before I put this on the road I'd like to undercoat the crap out of it and apply some Line-X or similar bed coating. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanx.
With the small wheels and short bed it’s not a 250, I believe dual tanks were an option. I like that style of truck a lot.
The badges in the pic are F150. My friend had a '86 F150, straight 6, 5 speed that he bought new. It was one hell of a truck. It lasted longer than him. RIP, Leon.
I believe the second tank was an available option. My brother had a F-150 of similar vintage back when they were new and if I remember correctly it had one.
Had a 300ci straight 6 with a 4-speed and 2wd. Couldn’t kill it and it towed better than the F-150 V-8, Auto, 4x4 that replaced it. I would love to have that truck.
Congrats on a sweet find.
For a while the double tanks were an option, and then they all came that way for a bit. Something about how they packaged things under there almost required two tanks to get enough capacity.
The F100 got the shorter gears with the I6 simply for torque reasons. I think the F100/F150 came with 3.08s if you got the 5.0L/AOD, but maybe 3.42 or 3.73 with the I6/4-speed. Of course, that was also back in the day when you could order more options and spec it out how you wanted it.
To the best of my knowledge, the camper special was only available in the F150 and higher. They got stiffer springs, lower gears, and nearly all had the twin tanks. The F100 was marketed directly at the light truck crowd and wasn't designed for HD use, especially with the weight of campers back in the day.
The badge I see in that photo looks like it says F150. Do a VIN decoder search and see what it tells you. When you get it, post a pic of the door sticker and I can decode many of the options.
BTW... VERY nice truck. Congrats. I passed on an F150 long bed of the same vintage at an auction sale once. Same setup; I6, manual, 2wd. It had a bad clutch and someone wanted it just a bit more than I did. Still kicking myself for not taking the next bid.
You're correct, I mis-typed the F-100, actually an F-150.
I had one a billion years ago, straight six, three-on-the-tree. It wasn't really a TRUCK. more of a truckie. Driving through NJ a Trooper at a toll booth really cranked at me for driving a "Truck" on his highway. What? As an F-250 with 44' mudders flew by "How is he getting a pass?" It's got a cap so it's an SUV, get that thing off my road.
Relegated to Rt. 5, light to light at 40 mph. Sold the truck when the bed rusted out, hope to negate that with good undercoating.
Im a fairly big fan of the 300 always and especially more during that era when none of the v8s were really putting out a bunch of power anyway. Id rather give up the 8-28hp and get the 300 reliability and torque rather than the 302/351/400
Well, it was New Jersey. I would be OK if I had a cap on the truck. I just go through Pennsylvania from now on, FNJ.
Thanks Amerson, the seller says that was quite pricey (he has teh 1984 window sticker, books and the check to purchase it).
I took plates off my Chevy 1500 and put Shamu on the road. Truck had "commercial", Shamu does not. When I put the truck back on the road last week, it got regular car plates. "No commercial plates under 8,000 lbs."
Makes sense, a 1974 Datsun pickup or a VW Caddy get Commercial plates, but a 6,000 lb. Escalade does not?
My niece had a 77 f100 300ci 3 on the tree with dual tanks.
So, definitely possible. Bronco graveyard and npd were where we found the weird E36 M3 it needed that weren't common wear items.
I don't think I can specifically remember dealing with any late 80s or early 90s Ford truck that didn't have dual tanks. That's admittedly not that many trucks, but still.
