"...though he acknowledged that he still had much to learn about rocket science. "  Really? A flat earther who isn't up on rocket science?  Would have never guessed.

Although it sounds like he just duped a bunch of rich flat-earthers to finance his scheme.

Not quite, article says his Kickstarter was at $310 of it's $150,000 goal.

That said, Hughes isn’t a totally unproven engineer. He set a Guinness World Record in 2002 for a limousine jump, according to Ars Technica, and has been building rockets for years, albeit with mixed results.

It's not obvious if he jumped a limo or if the limo jumped something else.

That might be all the wealth from rich flat-earthers.

So, WaPo has decided to compete with the supermarket tabloids?

Must have been a slow news day.

So "I don't believe in science" (direct quote from the AP) but I'm going to build a rocket to prove my hypothesis... oh the irony.

It'd be easier to climb a tall hill or building to get up 1800 feet.

He's also planning on running for governor of California. Seems like he'd have a fair shot if he survives this.

Thats what I thought. Man raises $300 of his $150,000 goal, decides to jump on the crazy train and get someone, or a group of someones, with....unorthodox.... beliefs to fund his rocket instead.

The funny part I thought was that it is a steam powered rocket. Hardly the pinnacle of propulsion technology. Who's gonna fund it? probably the people who don't believe in gravity. Makes sense.

You're missing out on some other gems. I think my favorite is "'And I’m a believer in the flat Earth,' Hughes said. 'I researched it for several months.'”

Pretty sure he can get Kyrie Irving to bankroll this thing

I know the magazine staff love the oddball classes that people come up with for the challenge, but I suspect a line might get drawn BEFORE the event on that one...

Just based on the article, sounds like he’s using the flat earthers to bankroll his project by “believing” their.....thing.
