Many, I would dare to say most, gun right advocates are members of the NRA and are also not in favor of registering their firearms for they fear Government confiscation.
NSA recently released that they can hack almost any system in the world.
NSA uses NRA to get Government list of gun owners without ever passing a law.
Thoughts?
They don't have to hack the NRA. They can have a secret court issue an order like the did to google, verizon, etc.
If you don't want anyone to know you have firearms... don't tell anyone. Pay cash for the supplies.
If the rule makers can make anything against the rules whenever they want... then there are no rules.

I wouldn't put anything past this regime.
I only pay cash and no longer buy from dealers/stores. What I may or may not have is my business, and I'll do everything I can to keep it that way
I'm still not even sure why this is such a huge worry for people.
Have people watched Rambo so many times they think themselves and their neighbors with a few a rifles and handguns are going to stand a chance against a SWAT team or a unit of Marines that wants their guns?

I've seen Red Dawn dozens of times. We still have high school kids and we don't have any more Soviets so I like my odds.

I must assume it's the same crowd that didn't find the plot of Red Dawn utterly laughable in many different ways.
Edit: D'oh beaten.
None of my guns are registered. I don't think it really does any good. Even if I did register them, I wouldn't care if people knew what I had.
I'm not an NRA member.
The premise in your first paragraph begs for proof.
Besides, there are so many gun owners and guns in this country that a list from the NRA of owners wouldn't do much good. At least not without a list of guns.
In reply to z31maniac:
Kinda my thinking as well. If anything, this type of information (names and numbers of gun owners) might be a political resource.
I could see a very anti-gun administration digging up information on the number of mentally ill people that are gun owners as way of scaring the public. "Over 8,000 mentally unstable people in the USA own guns," but the NRA doesn't track gun ownership just membership, and just because someone is/was a member doesn't mean they have access anymore. Imagine how many people in jail that are/were NRA members?
Maybe if they got real ambitious they could launch targeted taxes of people with guns, but that'd be hard to do.
Another real-world use might be tracking down recent immigrants who are from radically Islamic countries, but why would they be NRA members? They could get that information from dealers if potential threats went that route.
In reply to z31maniac:
There are 120 million (estimated) gun owners in this country. As of December 31, 2009, the Statistical Information Analysis Division of the U.S. Department of Defense lists a total of 1,465,086 active military personnel.
You don't think being outnumbered 120:1 worries people who may have had trouble winning a fight against much smaller, poorly armed bands of resistance because of difficult terrain? Thirty trillion dollars wasn't enough to make it a quick decisive oppression. There are always people who worry.

Everybody, please behave and don't flounder.
Gentle Reminder: One of the reasons why RebelGTP created theoutdoorsman.us (a.k.a the "Guns and E36 M3" website) was to keep the gun discussions to a minimum. There are plenty of familiar GRM faces over on that site.
About 20 years ago I rode into Canada. I was quite surprised that the Canadian border guard knew not only that I was a firearm owner, but what firearms I owned, including the unregistered ones.

same … (except I am a NRA member) it gets me in at one of the ranges
I wouldn't doubt they (NSA) already know at least some of the gun owners in the USA. Like Foxtrapper said, been going on for a while. I don't trust the government too much myself.
Although I am probably one of the few NRA members that doesn't own a gun (yet). Maybe that will confuse them a bit?

Nope, I doubt it. 60% are overweight or obese, and I'd be a similar % or larger don't have near the training or marksmanship that the avg SWAT or Military guy does. It's not as though your .30-06 is going to have an affect on armored Humvee's or tanks, and may or may not against guys in ballistic armor (if you can hit them).
I don't trust the gov't or care for many of it's policies either, it's just this particular worry has always struck me as odd.
As I was being investigated by the police (interview process), the officer asked what guns I owned. As I specified each one, he was nodding his head as if he knew to an extent what I owned. I'm sure he did.

The ability to cross reference gun related purchases to credit card holders is insanely easy. You don't need to register your guns, your trail of supplies tells the story plenty well. There's no need to publicly demand gun owners to register, the data has already been collected and processed. We've been under surveillance for decades, why is everyone surprised now? And if you think buying from a gun show will get you out of the government's eye you are wrong. One drive through a parking lot with a single license plate reading patrol car is a good start on names, the rest will come from facial recognition software.
I'm not a member of the NRA, why add my name to head of the "kick me" list?
The only "reason to worry" I have really heard about this is (as noted, and no, not kidding) based on the movie Red Dawn where the invaders used the gun registrations to find gun owners and reclaim their guns.
Of course, this was set in a small town in Colorado. They needed a registry to figure out who had guns!? Maybe they should just assume everyone did.
Side Note: Red Dawn was set in Calumet Colorado. Calumet Colorado is now an uninhabited ghost town north west of Walsenburg CO. It does not even show up on google maps!!!! They made it disappear!!!
Also of Note: The movie was actually shot in the town of Las Vegas New Mexico. "Vegas" of course comes from the Spanish for a large fertile valley. Of course "fertile" refers to reproduction which of course is just another way to say "screw". YES, IT'S TRUE. PROOF!!! THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO SCREW YOU!!!
Go ahead, try and deny that TRUTH!!! You can't do it can YOU!!
You're already on the list. Join the NRA because it is the only organization in DC that actually represents The People. Yeah, you may not agree with everything they do, but they are there and helping. Support GOA as well. They are more extreme.
I'll just leave this here... http://www.infowars.com/students-sign-petition-to-have-gun-owners-executed-in-concentration-camps/

the privacy ship sailed quite a while back with a nice public send-off. There's a fairly long history of folks willing to cash in perceived rights for perceived security.
In reply to z31maniac:
Discount it however you like. But to deny that a very large population of armed citizens wouldn't give any enemy pause is silly. Many of them ARE cops, veterans, etc. The whole idea is to give that pause, to have to consider that to overthrow their way of life you would have to deal with resistance. It works as a deterrent in combination with other umm... rights?
The people who worry about such things wouldn't be after the guns alone. They would go after the ability to freely assemble, speak freely, keep things private... have a speedy trial before your peers. Because while they have those things - it's very hard to get enough of a foothold to oppress them.
Luckily, none of that has been going on here so this is all tinfoil hat stuff for the fun of discussion, right?
