Everyone do their candy shopping yet? We always get a ton of kids, and I admit that I let my own preferences guide the shopping cart: Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, Almond Joy, Reese's Pieces, etc. I figure I shouldn't eat it, but I can live vicariously through others. Also, what's the rule on number of pieces of candy per kid?

I'm not sure which day of the weekend the locals will be doing this. I may need to get some candy in case they actually do Halloween on Halloween for a change. I obviously won't be around on the 30th. (Running to Orlando for the MSCC 50th banquet )

My rule is to turn off the lights.

Call me an ogre, but I know/have seen the parents in my neighborhood and will do everything in my power to prevent the kids from reaching the same poundage.

I want them riding bkes, playing football and walking their dogs as long as they can.

LOL you mean you don't want them to look them like your cat?

I buy two or three different kinds. Little kids (less than 12 years old) get the good stuff. Teens, the not so good stuff.

Former cat, actually.

But, he had more energy and gumption (right to the end) than nearly all the 'rents around here.

No candy here. 24 years in this house and I can count all the kids that show up on one hand.

Same here. I think we've had 3 kids in 20 years.

Just enough to get them into the back of your van...

Mmmmm. Almond Joy! One of my favorites from waaaaaay back.

We live in a small neighborhood and get a handful of kids, all of whom hang out with our kids. If I'm passing out the "fun size" they get several, if it's big candy bars, then just one.

A bag of candy once a year won't make a kid fat. It's what they eat the rest of the year that makes them that way, and I have no control over that. I give candy with a clear conscience, and it makes the kids happy.

We live in a newer neighborhood and easily get 300+ kids at the door. So we buy the big bags that give us maximum pieces......and our city limits the time from 2:30pm-6:00pm.

I've bought several bags of candy for Halloween already. The stores so thoughtfully put it out on displays, so I pick up three or four bags of Reeses, Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Almond Joy etc. I have already eaten it all. I'll probably buy some more today...and some more later in the week.

That's retarded. I don't think that's any of their business.

Nobody goes out until 7 PM around here.

My wife has the kid roll a die, and their roll determines how much candy they get.

Alternatively, hand out carrots, complete with the greens, on Halloween. The look on their face as they watch the carrots going in the bag is priceless.

The look on on your face as the eggs hit your windows will be priceless too

what happens to the outlaw kids that are out after 6pm? i suppose someone calls child protective services and the kids get to go to counseling and the parent's have some 'splaining to do..

when i was a kid- late 70's/early 80's- there was no way in hell we were gonna go out trick or treating before the sun went down... that just seems so.. wrong... so very, very wrong.. also, unless we were under about 5 years old, we went out alone and let the parents stay home and hand out candy..

i live in a part of the country that typically doesn't let kids go out trick-or-treating if the 31st ever falls on a Sunday.

they usually have em do it Saturday...

That's one thing I don't like about our new house. At the wife and I's old house (my childhood home) we would get HUGE amounts of trick or treaters. Ever since I was little, so 20+ years ago, that street has been known for being big time decorated by nearly all the houses on the street for 10 residential blocks.

In '08 when we lived there, we stopped counting at 425 kids. In '09 at our new place (same town, other side of the river) I think we had about 25 kids.

One of the few times I enjoy being around kids, Halloween is always a good time!

Wow really? At my old house, it was not unusual to have kids, even younger ones, still out as late as 9pm and the older ones would stay out til 10pm+

Even in bible belt OK.

Since it is on Sunday, they bumped the time earlier. Usually they limit the weekdays from 3:00pm-7:00pm. We still get a few kids later into the evening - not a big deal.

I too grew up as a kid T/T until 9:00pm or so. But things seem different today with less people letting little kids roam the streets like I did.
