There seems to be plenty of 9mm around here. The only thing that is hard to get would be the .22 ammo.
I don't look for a concealable gun. I look for a comfortable gun and then I conceal it. If I were looking for a 9mm, I'd get a Springfield XD-M. Not small at all, but I'd never have to reload.
.22 and .38spl are unobtanium here. 9 is coming back but it;s been slow. .45's, .40 have been plentiful for a few months.
I was in our Academy Sports the other day and they had everything except 22 rimfire on the shelves. They may have had it behind the counter, but I didn't ask.
The Walmart has almost nothing.
Thanks for all of the replies. I should say that this will be my first handgun (shotgun guy for many years) so the most use it will see is putting rounds down range. Other than that, it will sit in a bedside safe for house protection. For CCW, I have already shot a lot of 7 round sub-compacts and that is what I want if I am going to conceal something often. That is step #2. Step #1 is to get comfortable with owning, carrying, shooting. I found a range somewhat locally that I can rent and try out some stuff, so I am planning a few trips there to try out my top contenders.
I only have the desire for one 9mm:

that's the one I want for in the home protection
FWIW: (re: glocks:) It's a lt's a love it or hate it thing. Go shoot one and see what you think. I love em all, and they all go "bang" every time you pull the trigger.
Just remember that 10mm is not interchangeable with .40 cal ammo.
Silly plastic guns! This is a .40 in a Colt 1991A1 Compact .45:
It was a misc round in an ammo can full of .45's. Buddy loaded the mags for me and didn't notice it. I fired the first three fine, then it jammed. It fed it, fired it but the extracter couldn't pull it because it was off centered!

Glock 19 is always the answer
This. The Gen4s have a replaceable backstrap for different sized hands. I recently discovered an aftermarket beavertail that also changes the grip angle to be more "1911ish." I went from liking my G19 to loving it.
Plus it's tough to argue with 15 rounds in an easily concealable package.
I'll argue with it. The 23 holds 13 and is in the same package, but S&W 40 instead of 9mm.
Why use .40 Short&Weak when you can get a Glock 29 and have some 10mm power?
In all actuallity, the difference in power between 9mm, .40, and .45 isn't really that much. If 9mm won't stop it, you're screwed and need a rifle or shotgun.

Pretty much the best comment regarding calibers in the history of the internet.
Sperlo, that looks like it could have been painful.

I'm glad that I can't tell you how it felt.

Speaking as somebody whose only KB was an out of battery 10/22, you don't want to know.

G27 GEN4, it's a .40 and a 9+1. One can fit it in an ankle holster and in a Crossbreed Super Tuck.

I rocked a G33 for awhile......I loved that little monster. I might go back, idk yet. I kind of want a sig 1911 though.
If I get a sig, it'll be a full sized double stack 9mm.

The Judge is a good idea but I really don't like it. The grip is just too small.
Yeah, TBH I don't much care for it, I just like hilariously oversized guns. I knew a guy that had a vending route in Chicago, YEARS ago. He had a carry, or...he carried. Either way, he was REALLY armed. He kept a .44mag in a shoulder holster, open. Carried a 9mm of some fashion (Glock?) on his back in the common conceal spot, and kept a shotgun in his truck. (He liked to not get robbed by crackheads). He said he never carried the .44 for shooting, the Glock was faster and more accurate than that arm cannon. But he ALSO said not a whole lot of people berkeleyed with him when they saw that hanging off. And the guys that DID make a move- got to see the Glock first.
On the off-beat side, I carry a CZ52 Tokarev.......fires a 7.62x25.......ammo can be somewhat limited in bulk, but I have no issues with this weapon

When the new county sheriff got elected here in sacramento a few years ago, one of his big points was opening up the ccw application process. He basically came out and said, "we don't have enough officers, so the more ccw holders, the better".
The hardest part of the application was getting an initial interview appointment. They release a few months worth of interviews at a time, on an online scheduling site. They fill almost immediately, so you almost have to check the sight daily. Once you get past that, it is mostly down hill from there, just a lot of waiting. I starting looking for interview times, October of last year, got the interview in March, was issued the ccw this October.... So yeah, it took a little while!
That will never happen down here. I was hoping something had happened at the state level that fixed things.
Its not the end of the world as electronic payment has fixed a bunch of my issues with caring cash.

Yo dawg, we heard you liked 1911s...
I ccw a sig p250 compact in 40 cal and have for about a year. Previous to that I ccw'ed a full size XD .45 and never had a problem with it being spotted in a crossbreed supertuck. I think the dao trigger on the p250 is great. Smooth and buttery. I highly recommend the platform. Plus if you get the .357 sig xchange kit, they use the same mags as the 40. otherwise its 50 bucks a magazine(or so. ouch!). Incidentally the p250 fits my XD supertuck holster excellently. Enjoy your search.
