March 28th or March 29th, depending on who you ask.

The blued-steel Colt
The new steel Colt
She runs to stunts erratic
For she's a darn
Tough arm to learn
This Army automatic.
Yet when you get to know this arm
and how to coax and pet her,
She'll do her duty like a charm
No Gun will serve you better.
She'll stick right closely by your side
And as the fight grows hotter
And you are caught in battle's tide--
You'll thank your stars you've got her.
The lusty Colt, The trusty Colt,
The weapon democratic,
Whose vicious might
Makes men one height--
The Army automatic.

Here's to 100 more! I'll take a steel single-action Colt 1911 over a modern plastic pistol every time.
In reply to nderwater:
that Colt 45 is 48 years old.

Amen. Preaching to the choir. The 1911 is the Miata of the small arms world.

Carried the 1911A for 7 years, along with my trusty M14.
I made grips for one out of Ironwood; tough stuff.
I love 1911's. Even though I had to sell my cheap one, some day I will own a nicer one.
1911 is cool, but my heart yearns for a 1903...

Me too, maybe a 100 anniversary model needs to be purchased.

the pocket hammerless .32acp?
I have the 1903/8 pocket hammerless in .380acp.....a better browning design than the 1911 in my book. I'm sure he didn't want all those safeties on the 1911.....and an internal extractor is a horrible idea, which is why I'll buy the sig sauer 1911....
otherwise, carry on forever

Thats the one. Im kinda leaning towards the .32, but I wouldnt turn down the .380. I would actually like to carry one, but my PF9 is about as flat, and alot more powerful.
I lean toward the .32 because I already habve two guns in .32, but .380 is cheaper. What to do what to do.

It seems to have worked pretty well for 100 years. Notice that Kimbers used to have external extractors and now have internal ones, just like every other standard 1911.
But yes, happy centennial to the 1911. I've been denying myself another blued government model for a while now...

Will, it has worked, but every 1911 I've had first hand experience with needed tuning of the extractor. Once that was done, no issues. If the case rim wasn't thick enough or far out enough though, you have no chance to force the extractor on it though. I will have 2 true 1911s in the future though, 38 super and a delta 10mm
