...to everybody, and in particular to NSperlo.
Enjoy!

Were they the ones who burned people in man baskets?
Apart from any religious associations (and there are plenty arising from a long history of humans paying attention to day and night), the summer solstice is one of my favorite markers.
Having the longest day of the year fall while I'm trying to side the garage after work this week is perfect. Maybe I'll be able to return the scaffolding on Saturday after all.
Of course, here in the PNW it's only starting to get warm and dry, and IIRC it's not actually the latest sunset yet, just the longest sunrise-to-sunset span... (Light before I get up is irrelevant to me )

Each solstice has its own name. Today is Midsummer. Yes, its a Wiccan (or any other variation of) holiday. Today is the longest day of the year (note there funny made above) and the official beginning of summer.
Bah, you don't have to be Wiccan to enjoy it--ya just have to dig watching the world work (or long days with the top down!). We are the universe observing itself..

It's not until just after 7pm, but don't worry. Premature solstice is a problem that a lot of guys have.
Also, I didn't realize Sperlo was a 15 year old girl. Sorry for the inappropriate emails (Oh my goth!!!)

You strike me as an "a groan is as good as a laugh" kind of person for some reason.

Carrier improved, but air conditioning preceded that by quite a bit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gorrie
