I have a section of yard between the garage and chicken coop that will not grow grass (lack of sun). It's at the end of a large patio, so I don't need/want more patio. I'm thinking just dump rock, with paver steps to the seldom used gate, plants/bushes on the right. That seems like the easy button, any better ideas?

Is there any "ground cover" plants that will do well in shaded in conditions? Then add the pavers?
I'm looking at the same thing as there are two massive trees on the west side of the house, so it's almost all dirt. We've tried shade grass, watering, fertilizers, nothing works. Plan on going to the garden store in the next few weeks to see what suggestions they have.
Scotch moss would do great there.
Go to the big box store's garden section. There should be a whole section of plants by a company called something like "step on me" or "walk on me." Find one that likes low light.
I did some scotch moss under some pine trees and it is doing pretty well.
uh who's annoyed with this look? get back to Kar stuff ok???
Looks secluded enough to grow about 20 shade friendly indicas. Fried chickens before they even hit the pan and eggs that are always over easy.

I've read some good articles about encouraging good old fashioned moss. I don't have any "wild" moss in my area, so haven't tried it. Will have to look into the scotch moss Curtis mentioned. Haven't heard of that before. I have more trees than clear areas!
In our shaded areas, I planted ajuga(Bugleweed) and it really took off! I did a bunch along side the stone steps as an accent color on the sides and it's getting a bit out of control and needs to be cut back. I really haven't found any conditions other than totally saturated soil where it won't thrive.

My wife is the gardener in our family so I don't have details but our lawn is mostly shade tolerant herbs. When she mows it smells like pizza.

Slightly off topic, but would you be okay with sharing more photos of your house/yard? It looks absolutely amazing in what little bit is shown here!!
