Interested in costs and how they look. My cabinets are solid but the finish is not the best. My options are paint them (I did this once with great success and work) or reface them. Looking for advice. Thanks!

I did a big repaint once. Removed the doors and hardware. Light sanding and serious cleaning then I sprayed them with white paint and followed that with a chocolate glaze. It gives a “French countryside” look.
Kitchen ended up looking a lot like this for the cost of a gallon of paint and a quart of glaze. New pulls ran around $5 each and worth it but add up quickly.

Whatever you decide, don’t. Just because you do the work doesn’t mean she’ll really like it. Oh she may say that looks nice or you did a good job. However as soon as she can she’ll start complaining
If not complaining about the kitchen there will be something she’s unhappy with
Ask her! It’s her kitchen even if you share or just do all the cooking.
Dont know the cost, but my brother had his repainted by a pro. I believe it was really a pro and not a self proclaimed pro. It was so good I complemented him multiple time on the kitchen remodel before he told me it was 95% a cabinet respray.
Note, he started with really sound well built cabinets so I dont kowned how much that had to do with it.
My dad's house was built in 1970 with really dark cabinets - in the early 1990's he pulled the doors off and laid (glued) a thin layer of oak veneer over the cabinets and doors and then stained and polyurethaned them.
Lot's of work and ended up looking good but I believe the oak look is out the door.
Not what you asked, but we just repainted our kitchen cabinets. Big job, but for the $$, well worth it.
I’ve done the repaint with great success, but I was looking for experiences on refacing as in replacing the doors and relaminating the cabinet facing. If the cost is too high, I may just paint them myself.
I should follow this thread. I may be looking to repaint or have them refaced in the future. The problem is my cabinets are crappy, so I'm not sure its worth it

Wow, jumpy! I don't think a 'she' was mentioned by the OP.

If there was a Mrs. Rustybugkiller I would not have to ask this question because I would have my orders.
You'll need to log in to post.
