Interesting, I have never seen a rack like that in use.
My buddy has one of those 5 bike racks because his pull out game is not on point. The rack itself is pretty neat but you are only gonna comfortably put it behind a full size SUV, van, or truck. Its a whole lot of distance and area behind a smaller vehicle.
I think if I had to haul more than 2 or 3 bikes I would look at a small trailer with inline roof racks which could be assembled for not much money, or if I was using my pickup truck, would put 3 or 4 in the bed and 2 on a hitch rack. My pickup only holds 5 people and my wife and I dont have kids, so I guess unless the cats learn how to ride bikes this discussion is purely academic.
The Thule rack like the OP posted is a nice option, I have seen them rub on the forks on fat tire bikes and full size long travel suspension bikes like my Trek Rail. For that reason I will stick to the 1Up design.
I am probably a bit of an outlier though, not too many people hauling road bikes, fat tire bikes, full suspension fat tire bikes, BMX bikes, e-Bikes, and regular mountain bikes on the regular.
Right I could do 4 - 2 on the roof, 2 on a hitch rack, but I have never considered anything higher than that.

Except one ups don't hold more than 4 bikes and are useless for us with big families.
id love one. But won't fit my needs. They are made well
The 1UP Recon Rack will fit 5 or 6.

That is surely going to depend on the bike. With the front wheel off my mountain bike, it barely fits in my Element.
