WOW !! What's next a Victorias Secret push-up bra on the Mona Lisa ? somethings should be left as they were! I am all for being PC in the present tense, but you can't re-write history....
BTW, I love the "Graphic Novel" approach especially the study guide !!
The revision is a real shame. The alternative was that a bunch of schools were going to be forced to pull it; which is even bigger bullE36 M3. I can't believe they couldn't have just used it as a discussion point of the history of racism in this country, and maybe even spun it as an illustration of how much we've advanced as a society.
Nah, that would be too hard.
Man, you guys must get really upset at some Onion articles.
While I agree the retconning that comic strip is lampooning is ridiculous, I just didn't find that example that funny.
This whole "N-Word" business is kinda lame, really. I mean, I went to school where black kids would yell it down the hall. I still can't imagine anyone's really offended by it if they're using it today in some lame effort to "Take it back". I don't see jews embracing any of the terms aimed at them.

Refer to thread where I said somebody "jewed" me. Holy crap did I get a lot of angry posts about that! It was a JOKE!
so you now know that in this day-n-age you aren't allowed to "joke" about any group ... 'cept us southern rednecks...
Of course the racial slur used in the book is offensive, but its presence is crucial to understanding the era in which the book is set, as well as Huck's moral evolution. Removing it destroys a main theme of the book and makes study of it pointless.

Plus eleventy billion!
Instead of preserving a teachable moment, educators have fallen victim to those creating a preachable moment.
100% FAIL...........
Hedley Lamarr: Qualifications?
Applicant: Rape, murder, arson, and rape.
Hedley Lamarr: You said rape twice.
Applicant: I like rape.

"Number 6"? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one.
Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a-whompin' and a-whumpin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.
You spare the women?
Naw, we rape the E36 M3 out of them.
Marvelous!
Got Blazing Saddles on DVD for Christmas. Truly a classic that set the tone of the whole era, and could never be repeated.
I mean, who could imagine today, that people could actually take a touchy subject and openly mock it like Mel Brooks did?

Samuel Clemens could.
Chebbie_SB wrote: Mel Brooks gots some big brass ones with all of Blazing Saddles !
How about those of one of his co writers? None other than Richard Pryor.
I have the unedited version too, I laugh my ASS off when I watch it.

I did not know that. That makes a ton of sense. Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor have the right idea about racism. Remember the original Shaft? Same thing. People today have their (insert your favorite offensive analogy) here.

"Stop it, baby. You're sucking on my arm."
The "N" word isn't really a racial slur, it's more a reference to color. The Indians (from India) were and are still sometimes called the same thing.
Once upon a time it was also a reference of status. Slaves came in all colors and races over the years. There's not a person this forum that doesn't have a slave in their background.
Huck Finn is a great look at the culture that existed back then. It's funny people condemn it now because of it's "racial overtones", but back then it was condemned for being too liberal.
Poor misunderstood Tom and Huck!
After sitting through "In the Heat of the Night" and "The Liberation of L B Jones", please don't tell me how the N word is offensive. The second movie is wicked boring, slow, racist, red neck and has more N Words than hello or good morning.
These Do-Gooder Leftists Whatevers really should look around a bit before banning, or at least do it with an even hand.
