So a few weeks ago I was contacted by a local company that is a pretty big player in the manufacturing of shelving, rack systems and tool box world. Burroughs Corporation was looking for a few maintenance guys to train under two guys that are in the twilight of their careers. They were looking for John Brown types (Decent mechanical skill sets, not journeymen, willing to train to their system to get them leveled up).
I took the job thinking I could start in November but it looks like I will be required to start a couple weeks earlier than anticipated, meaning that my 2021 Challenge trip will be scrapped.
I'm excited about this opportunity and sad about having to push off for another year but it is what it is.

February 2017 I sent $4k to my inlaws in Tucson to buy the C10. The following week I get an email from Tim asking to run One Lap. Couldn't do both and I had already purchased the plane ticket.
John,
I had something similar happen to me. I got laid off at the beginning of August. Since I had some personal stuff going on and I had plenty of money saved up, I wasn't going to start looking for work till about now and was going to take a west coast swing marshaling the IMSA and Indy events at Leguna Seca and then the Long Beach GP. Then, I was going to work the run-offs.
Well, 2 days after I got laid off, I got a call from a friend saying that I needed to call an old work colleague as he had a job available. Well, 3 days after I did, I had a new job with a nice pay increase starting the day after the final day at my old job.
So right there with you. Happy to be employed but would have loved to hit all of those race weekends.
make hay while the sun shines, or something like that. get paid!

Now you can enter the $4000 Challenge!
I was thinking, you're worried about missing the 2021 Challenge? That's like over a year away, don't stress over it so soon.
Then it hit me.

Great news on the new job.
Bad news on missing Gainesville.
This adulting thing can really suck!
Now I feel less bad about missing this year. JB brings the party. Next year!

Correct, it does mean that Albert will not be there this year as well. But I promise I will bring him next year.
Had a kid last summer. Completely berked up my life. And I couldn't be happier.

How strange, my story is the same, down to the month I got laid off. The day-to-day at my new gig sucks, but it's the best pay, 401k match, healthcare and PTO policy I've ever had.
